Im asking this question on behalf of my mum, she has a female cat that has just had kittens and wants to get her neutered. She is on a very low income (but not on benefits) shes just come off job seekers allowance and is working friday and saturday evenings in a local pub.

I was just wondering if anyone had experiences of getting help to pay for neutering costs for cats? many thanks

mmmm not sure if she can get any help if not on benefits (silly isn't it *sigh*) but it might be worth contacting the local cats protection/RSPCA/any other cat charity nearby and asking if they would be able to help with the cost? Otherwise contacting the local vets and asking if there is anything they might be willing to do being as your mum is trying to do the right thing for the cat in getting her neutered...

It's because it's a complex operation unlike castration which is fairly simple and arguably hardly invasive (I say arguably on the grounds that the boy cat probably thinks it's pretty invasive ;) ) - having seen both first hand (and a cat during an emergency spay after delivering 1 kitten and having a dead and part septic one still trying to be pushed out) I can promise you the spay is a LOT more work...
It's annoying (I know - I have a boy and a girl and both have been done - as you say spay cost more) but at least your mum won't have to put up with the yowling males who try to get in and will spray everything in sight given half a chance :)

    Good luck!

Cats Protection League used to help for neutering costs and you didn't need to be on benefits - just a low income. This was around 15 years ago, however your mum is trying to be a responsible owner and there are plenty of unwanted cats already, so she may well still be successful in gaining financial assistance. Also try the Blue Cross and other animal charities.

cats protection still definatley help with neutering get in touch with your local one and they will send either a voucher to yur mum or her vets, she wont be able to be done until she is finished feeding the kittens but apply for the voucher now as it lasts around six months i believe

I'm pretty sure the Blue Cross Hospitals are purely for people on low incomes who still require veterinary treatment for their pets. Neutering of pets is always recommended to avoid populating, so I'm sure there is financial help for this.
  • Hi All,

This may sound like a really daft question but one of my female cats was recented sprayed. Can this be reversed to allow her to conceive?

    Cheers.
