  • We weigh our dogs at home.
    weigh me
    weigh me + dog
subtract first weight from second = dog weight.

It started as we recorded their growth as puppies but now I just like to keep an eye that they're not getting too porky. They are both VERY fond of their food !!

I do that with my cats but I am not sure how I would manage it with the dog, my scales are not that big and he is probably too big to lift.

I weighed one of my cats recently and he weighs 13 pounds, is that too much? He is quite a big cat, the vet commented on it when I took him in last.

    The other weighs 8 pounds.....

Ps: I did realise that a spay was effectively a hysterectomy, I thought it would have been obvious?

I agree with Simon - it's not the owners fault if their vet never takes the time to explain the procedure! I have always done my best to explain exactly what procedures entail when admitting animals, as a lot of people don't really realise what words like 'spay' really means.. especially when human sterilisation can sometimes be reversed
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

13 lbs is 5.9kg - fairly heavy - not excessively so, but it depends on whether he's just a big cat - for some breeds thats normal.

Hes not any particular breed just your average moggy but he does have a similar shape to a BSH so maybe he is just big.....

I don't feed him too much, just once in the morning and once at night, I think maybe he just needs to get his furry backside off the bed and go out every once in a while....

If you're concerned, most vets offer free nurse appointments for things like weight checks - its hard to say without seeing him whether thats overweight. If it is then the vet would probably have said something, but I know not all vets do so.

She was 3.95kg today, 3.87 on 21st Nov, i'd like to know how that relates to human gain, is it like 1 or 2Ibs equivalent or like a stone or? Can't weigh her at home I don't have scales & won't get any tho I looked into Vet ones but they were £199-99!

3.95kg to 3.87kg is not a massive difference - some vets only have scales which read to the nearest 0.1 of a kg, in which case her weight would have been the same.... maybe it was just a poo hehe :p

I am rubbish at human weights, so would be unable to relate it - for a cat, a change of 0.5kg might be worth looking into, but it all depends on their 'healthy' weight, and any other clinical signs which may be presenting...

    PS- 3.95kg is totally normal/healthy for a cat :D

The Vet on 21st Nov said if she'd lost more when she has her vaccination booster in march he'd start by checking her tyroid, the Vet today when I mentioned that said 'this is NOT a cat with tyroid problems' lol
I wasn't concerned at 4.7/8 down to 4.1/12 cause I tried to get her to lose weight, so was abit glad it'd gone up today!

Least now I know she hasn't gained like 10Ibs or anything (Equivalent!) I don't want her to lose more so upped her food to 300g a day, she'd been on 200g when losing, so hopefully she'll maintain, think she's on 2x 85g & 1 100g pouches right now (Or will be when she can eat lmaooooo)
