Cat getting neutered
Comments

Can you get a free sample of it from anywhere? I'd easily buy one of the huge bags if I knew she would eat it. I got the hills neutered cat today from the Vets and so far she hasn't touched it......Looks like that may be £10 wasted! Though she hasn't had much of an appetite yet, I'll leave it out and see if she has a munch of it.0

You can get little bags About £2 or £2.50.
Perservere with these foods they are fantastic quality, great for their teeth, don't smell, attract flies in the summer, etc.
My cat was off her food for a couple of days.0 -
I've just remembered your cat has just been spayed so you might want to try the Royal Canin Sterilised 37 diet. You can get small 400g bags to try out for around £2-£3 but to be honest, I've not yet found a cat who wouldn't eat RC so I'd take a gamble on just buying a larger bag from the start.
I've just had to buy the RC Indoor Long-Haired version as one of my cats was on Hill's Mature Light and the other was on RC Indoor Mature but I've struggled to stop the cat fed on Hill's from eating the RC food since I started using it  but she needs a higher fibre diet. They obviously prefer it to Hill's!
Don't worry about her being off her food for a day or two after the op, it's quite normal. She'll get her appetite back very soon“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Doesn't RC have a link to cancer? I'd be interested if anybody knows for sure0

Yes, it does actually. Royal Canin is a ....
Major sponsor & supporter for Animal Cancer Trust!
Royal Canin continue to provide great support for the Animal Cancer Trust to help us reach our goal of fighting cancer in our pets. In 2007 they helped us produce our new leaflet and poster amongst other things. Royal Canin once again will be the headline sponsor and closely involved with the nationwide dog walk, 'Take the Lead', scheduled for the 4th/5th October 2008.

Royal Canin is proud to support the Animal Cancer Trust, and is now working with the charity whose aims are to help raise awareness of the disease in our pets, promote early detection, facilitate ethical research and improve the understanding and treatment of animal cancers.
Some 1.7 million dogs and 2.3 million cats are likely to be affected by cancer, yet there are currently less than ten RCVS recognised specialists in veterinary oncology in the UK.
The Animal Cancer Trust, in partnership with Royal Canin, will publish a series of information leaflets and educational posters for display in veterinary practices and also available for kennels and catteries, grooming parlours, dog and cat clubs and associations. These will highlight the main warning signs that a cancer might be present, so that both professionals and pet owners can respond early - a vital element in diagnosing and treating cancer.
Royal Canin is also supporting a series of sponsored dog walks taking place countrywide, called ‘Take the Lead’, full details of which are due to be announced shortly.
Gill Furniss, Royal Canin Veterinary Director, says: ‘With pets living much longer, cancer is becoming an increasingly common disease, and yet there is still very little specialist assistance in this area. We are delighted to be working with the Animal Cancer Trust, and hope to be announcing other initiatives shortly.’
Welcoming Royal Canin’s support, Karen Pearson, Chief Executive of the Animal Cancer Trust, says: ‘With Royal Canin as a partner we will now be able to move forward positively to achieve our primary goal of fighting cancer in our pets.’

To the OP - leaving brekkies / biscuits out all day is what made my last cat fat.
Our little queen was on 3 pouches a day before the credit crunch, sometimes 4, and the vet said she was a very good weight for her build. She never gets brekkies or many leftovers. She is now on tins of food as I realised they were cheaper than pouches by a long way. Got four cheap metal forks for 79p and we leave the tin covered up after it's opened. Not such an inconvenience really, and they can recycle the cans but not the pouches.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

hills dont do samples cos the have a 100% money back guarentee (conditions may appy?)
its not advisable to change any diet straight away - higher risk of pet rejecting it/upset stomoachs etc.
best to introduce it really slowly over 3-5 days (longer if pet really fussy) ..so a majority of normal food with a small amount removed and replace with new food, the next day try replace with a little more new food and so on...
Good Luck!0 -
She hasn't really been eating like she normally does, I think she had 1 pouch of food yesterday and half of it was left to dry out.
I do actually buy cans aswell, but she dosen't like it when it goes cold in the fridge! But will eat cold pouches?
I have put the hills biccies in with what she normally eats, but so far she hasn't eaten any, I'll just leave it out and she will just have to eat it! She will eat it, she does this, so she can get more wet food, tough!
She is a lot more livelier today, can't stop her jumping up on the sofa/bed/table, though it's funny watching her attempt to run because she runs all funny because of the cone. I'm suprised she hasn't even attempted to take it off, my OH'S mums cat, had her cone off in 2.4 seconds.
My cat is a bit of a daftie though, thinks it can headbutt a door from either side and it will open!0 -
It sounds like the cat still has quite a high testosterone level. It may be that a part of the testical is still there and producing testosterone. He needs to be able to work it off one way or the other and like you suggest he probably used the local females for that. I think the only thing you can do is teach him that you don't want that behavior. Use a water pistol with cold water in it and squirt him with it whenever he does it. He will learn not to do it in front of you."You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts" - Arthur Schlesinger

I decided to take her cone off since she hadn't seem bothered by grooming or anything and I thought she would leave them alone. Big mistake. First thing she did was start trying to pull them out! Made me feel queasy looking at her doing that. She was not happy to get that cone on, and now I feel sick. My fault!0
