No way I'm going anywhere near a hospital. The journey for my scan just helped to confirm it. Told the ladies from the school I work in that I'll get them over if necessary!

NICE antenatal guidelines say that nuchal tests should be available - which they are here, you just have to pay! I agree that higher risk people should have free access to them (ie: over 35/ family history/ previous pgs with issues). I seem to remember when I joined the thread someone saying they could have one at the ripe old age of early 20 something:confused: . Doesn't make sense - but is just part of the NHS postcode lottery, I suppose

Personally I'd like to labour in the midwife birth unit (nect door basically to consultatnt unit) - but having had a c/s 11 years ago I can't - even though I've had 2 'normal' deliveries since:mad: . Nothing worse than being led on a bed strapped to a monitor for hours :(

Personal bug-bear moan over with now!

Yup, I had the scan and bloods done at 21. My risk is 1 in 25,000. I'm pretty sure that there was no reason why I should have had one on the NHS, but everyone in this area gets one, no matter what the age! I'd have rather the funding for my one gone to someone higher risk who can't afford to get it done privately.

That said, perhaps the good antenatel care makes up for the fact that there is no therapy available for any one with Mental Health problems, no matter how severe.

Who decides what gets funding? They are lacking in common sense I think!

My Downs came back as 1 in 18000 which again I guess is pretty good - but that is based purely on bloods...
Apparently a "positive" test is anything with a risk higher than 1 in 300. This is the link to an Oxford study which I found quite interesting...
But I am a very sad person ;)

And from another site I found this:

What are the risks of Down's syndrome?

On average, one in every 1,000 babies born in the UK will have Down's syndrome. The risk increases with the mother's age, particularly after 35, as shown in the list below.1

    • At 25 years old the risk ratio is 1 in 1400.
    • At 30 years old the risk ratio is 1 in 800.
    • At 35 years old the risk ratio is 1 in 380.
    • At 38 years old the risk ratio is 1 in 190.
    • At 40 years old the risk ratio is 1 in 110.
    • At 45 years old the risk ratio is 1 in 30.

back to lack of reality in soaps, some bailiffs have just turned up to repossess a house with out giving any notice on emmerdale, yep you miss one mortgage payment and they just turn up and board up the windows don't they!
at least its not the usual thing that annoys me - police not remotely following procedure in soap, that one really get me!

Feelie: I feel your pain! I've only just recovered from my "big shop" on monday and now I'm sore again but in diff place from bathing chris

    Oh yay!! :D

I don't read the TTC thread much, but I'm sure I've seen your name popping up as the most recent poster in there a few times.

    Congratulations!

It is annoying getting that first BFP in the evening isn't it? Can't do anything about it!

I think usual practice is to phone your GP and ask them what to do. Some like you to see the GP first, others you can go straight to the midwife. Timing is different too in different areas.

    Congratulations again :)

No prob this is one of the most common questions we get :D
1st thing is to call GP 2mo and tell receptionist you've got BFP then they will either make you an app with miwives (MW) or say you need to bring in a wee sample for them to test. thats it!
and to join the club just find the latest copy of the list which is only about 10-15 posts back if you don't know when your due google due date calculator and put in the date of the 1st day of your last period (LMP)

    and btw Congratulations! :j
