you dont even have to go into too mcuh detail just explain that its hurts and there might be a bit of noise but things will be ok and that they will have a new baby at the end of it all! at least they are a little older and not really little! remember bribery also works hehe!
everyone thinks im mad wanting a HB but at end of the day i want to do what makes me happy not what suits them!

redmel1621 wrote: »Elle - sounds like you had a good day. I thought the Asda baby event started on Tuesday??
Got scan in morning, then I am going into work to have lunch with the girls. If I had known the stuff might be on sale already I would have planned to go down tomorrow whilst I am out anyway:( oh well will go on Tuesday as I planned.

It's supposed to, but a few people had said their local Asda were putting the stuff out already so I thought I'd go to ours on the off chance and it was there. There was still some big gaps on the shelves so it looked like they had other bit to put out too0 -

Will have a think about it. I was so set on it at the beginning too, maybe it's just nerves because it is getting closer now
Hehe, it may all be irrelevant anyway, I won't know until after this scan tomorrow!

Was musing over my decision for a home-birth and I feel like I am having second thoughts about it....who else is having one???
My concerns are more over the boys seeing/hearing me in pain than anything going wrong!! I just don't know what to do :undecided

Hi Mel,
I'm thinking of a homebirth, my midwife is coming next week to check the house and do my 36 week check up at the same time. No other children here to scare with my yelling, only DH and the neighbours!;)
Pethidine is the only drug, other than gas and air that our NHS trust send on homebirths, and you need to say you'll have it so they can also bring the antidote drug (Nalproxone from memory) in case the baby has had too much of it!
I'm also going to go down the birthing pool route, as I think this will help a lot. Money saving wise, I think HB is a good decision for us, because we have so much of the stuff we need handy anyway and I'm borrowing the pool.:j
Hospital feels like a pricey option, what with parking £5.70 a day and all that sandwich buying and hot drinks all round for a couple of days, cos we're all bound to need them at random times. I'm thinking that being in our own space will be the most MSE option!:money::money::money: I also read that homebirths are cheaper for the NHS than hospital deliveries, but I guess we're not here to try and save them money!!!
Anyhow, I'm quite into the idea of a HB now, having started my pregnancy very anti them:o, so am very up for chatting about the issues involved if anyone would like to, via PM or on here...:D

Thanks Weezl.
I was all for it to begin with but am swaying now!! I do 'think' I will go ahead with it.
I only want the gas and air, so am not going to get the pethidine in. A friend has said I can borrow her TENS. Although there seems to be a great deal of disagreement as to how effective they are!
Just realised you are due exactly a week before me:D

redmel - with dd1 I rented a tens machine which tbh wasn't that good... still managed ok with it but still had gas and air (and an injection in the end because it was taking so long)
With ds1 I had really bad back ache when pregnant and bought a Boots maternity tens machine to help ease the backache. It was so different from the one we had hired before. It was fantastic tbh and I used this for labour with ds1 and dd2 (and will need to get another as things are!) There were lots of different modes so you can pick one to suit you.
Sorry another opinion to throw into the mix.
I would be really interested to hear of peoples plans for home births... as things stand I think this is going to be our only option :rolleyes:0 -
Hi again,
I was thinking of a labour TENS up til 4cm dilated, and then the water option.
I've been reading up quite a lot about how the water temp is pretty important, and thet women need quite differing temperatures at different points. Thinking of trying to set up a code with DH so he can jiggle the temperature for me even if I can't talk at that point!
Chasingbutterflies and redmel, you've probably both seen this site, but I've found it really helpful with answering a lot of my questions.
Chasingbutterflies, why might it be the only option, are you quite far away from the hospital?
On a different topic, I have a question for all the knowledgeable mums to be: Where's the cheapest place to get raspberry leaf tea from? Has anyone found that the tablets work out more cost effective?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Ironically we are closer to the local maternity hospital than we have ever been (with no traffic etc and assuming dh was in a hurrywe could be there in 10 mins or so)
The worry that I have is that I have always gone into active labour around 6pm (ish) the first 2 arrived around 3am and our youngest at 10pm. Normally my Mum would look after whoever was a home. Unfortunatly (sp) my relationship with mum has broken down somewhat and I don't feel comfortable having her here. So I can either go it alone at hospital or have dh with me at home. Unless we have a super clever bump who decides to arrive after I have finished the am school run - in that case I can go to hospitalMy dad is a couple of hundred miles away and mil cares for fil so there isn't any other option that I have come up with yet - still plenty of time to [strike]worry[/strike] think about that one though...
Bet you wish you hadn't asked...
Thanks for the link added to my faves to have a look at later!0
