My DD's just been to see the midwife at the docs and she reckons the baby's small:( fundus is measuring 27cm and she said it should be 38, but i've looked online and it said it's roughly 1cm for every week preg:confused::confused: They said she has to go back in 3 weeks, and if it's still small have a scan.I'm v worried:(
She is quite tall and slim though so.....
Apparently those measurements arent exactly gospel, so try not to worry too much hun xx

candygirl - can't those measurements be quite affected by how she's carrying as well? So if she's not popped out quite a bit and carrying more "in", it's a bit off for the measurements?

You are now! I completely forgot to ask who LC was earlier:rolleyes:
I was sad to see my old name go, esp as I was Sam Brown as in singer of 1 hit wonder "stop" but I love being Mrs H now (plus brown is/was the 3rd most common last name in the uk so I like being a bit less common now)

Well my married name would be / is Green - nearly as bad :D My maiden name is a LOT less common on f/book (less than 15 results as opposed to over 500!!)

Well look at it this way, if they were really worried they wouldnt make DD wait 3 weeks before being checked again.
How far along is she now?

  • Candygirl - is she feeling lots of movement?

The fundus is a measurement of how the mother is carrying as much as the size of the baby...

I have just checked my notes and I was 32 cm at 31+2 - which supposedly gives me a large baby. However, all my scans show him as bang on (he was last measured on a scan at 29 weeks).

Has something/someone got a bit confused? My chart in my notes seems to tell me that with your average size baby (50th centile - bang in the middle) your fundus would never reach 38cm.

  • just a quick visit.. I had pre-e and HELLP ridiculously early on w/the twins and never had any rash. I'd think the itching sounds more like PUPPPS? It's supposed to be insanely itchy, starts at the belly and spreads over the thighs and whole tummy. Only good thing is it's usually gone soon after you have baby. If it is that then the hosp should give you something. I hope you get some relief soon!

Thanks for this, I had never heard of PUPPS before, just looked it up and I am wondering if thats what I have had.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a stretchmark appear in my armpit of all places - (goodness only knows how as I have only put on 1lb weight so far) and it was so itchy, i would wake up at night scratching so much it would bleed.

That stopped, but a few days ago I noticed my (old) stretchmarks on my belly have started to itch and my thighs were so itchy yesterday it felt like I was covered in itching powder! The strechmarks on my belly have tiny little red spots in them. I am only 15w 4d, but reading the description of PUPPS - it seems to fit with my symptoms (Although DH says Im a hypochondriac, so I am always convinced I have something!):rotfl:

Candy, try not to worry, when I saw midwife at 30wks I measured 31.5 and I asked her if that means its slightly bigger than it should be and she said you can't read anything into one set of measurements because they are affected by the position baby is in, how you are carrying, whether shes got the tape in exactly the same position as last time.
