Thanks Krystal I think a mum I know from "jolly babies" might be there as she strongly believed in bf'ing and I saw on the dec newsletter that she is now a volunteer at sure start so I bet she'll be involved :D

MoneyM good luck for 2mo, I'm gonna pull a date of July 19th for your due date, can't wait to see if I'm psychic ;)

    Debt-free and Proud!
I'm off to bed, but a question first and I'll check in tomorrow for some answers/ideas.

For quite a few days now I've been very itchy at the bottom of my bump/at the top of my erm ladygarden. I thought it was because I'd shaved my bikini line but it seems to be spreading a bit more, plusI've now noticed it on my hands and of course now I'm thinking about it I am itching everywhere!

I don;t think it is a PG-specific thing, and it may be cos we bought new bedlinen and didn;t wash it before putting it ont he bed, but does anyone have any ideas?

It looks like sunburn, and is itchy. My shins have it as well and they have red dots which HURT when I scratch them but they are the first area to get dry so it could be partly dryness (skin is drinking lotion right now).

Anything to worry about/see GP about or do you think it will go away?

  • Skinty - prob needs checking out to be honest. Itching and irritated skin is one of the things that you have to report later on in pregnancy (can be a sign of pre-eclampsia).

I had some itching and spoke to my MW about it...she said if it gets really bad ( ) then I needed to see the doc.

Having said that, your body is going through loads of changes so I would prob try treating with some E45 or something for a few days first (just in case it is the bedclothes!)

Usual conflicting nonsense from me then  :rotfl:

Skinty, worse case senario - itchiness is one symptom of pre-eclampsia but I don't think its that! (I'm sure its too early for that also)
It sounds exactly the same as what i have now and had with last preg too.
Be careful with what cream you use and avoid washing with hot water as that makes mine worse, If i don't wash my hands thoroughly before putting my cream on before bed I get the worst pain ever, I can feel every single nerve ending in my hands going mental it feels like pins n needles times a million with acid burning on top of that!
mine has been bad this week and I think its coz I've done 2 loads of washing using a free sample of persil powder and comfort fab con I got, I usually use fairy non-bio for everything.

Pregnancy does cause dry skin and makes skin more sensitive so you're prob just experiencing yet another joy of preg, oh yey!

  • Hi all, I've not been on for ages and am not sure if i've been removed from the list yet, my due date was for 30th Dec but here I am 9 days overdue!!!!!!:mad:

Please please does anyone have any suggestions how to start myself off naturally, am booked in for induction on Tuesday but really hoping to go into labour before then.
Have tried sex, hot curries, walking and rasp tea. (sorry if TMI)
I had a sweep 3 days ago and they cudn't do it as they cudn't reach properly, it still hurt a bit tho but has had no effect at all and apparently my cervix is closed and baby is still really high up.
They don't think the dates are wrong as my fundus is measuring in at 43 weeks now and they think the baby is big.
Also has anyone been induced before and can they share there experience of what it was like? I only know 1 person who went this far overdue and it took them 3 days to induce her with gels, drips and finally breaking her waters then she ended up havin a c section.
Sorry for ranting on , its just this is my first and i'm really scared about it all and any advice would be fab.
  • just a quick visit.. I had pre-e and HELLP ridiculously early on w/the twins and never had any rash. I'd think the itching sounds more like PUPPPS? It's supposed to be insanely itchy, starts at the belly and spreads over the thighs and whole tummy. Only good thing is it's usually gone soon after you have baby. If it is that then the hosp should give you something. I hope you get some relief soon!
  • Morning all - far less tired today. As DH is poorly, I decided we would both sleep better if I moved to the living room, instead of lying in bed with him and pestering him to stop snoring, and I feel much better for it :) (Normally I would make him move, but I couldn't wake him up, he was out for the count!)

shopaholic - I'm in a similar position, but not being induced till Thursday. She couldn't reach to do a sweep with me. Midwife has recommended reflexology, so I've got that tonight, and she is going to try and do another sweep on Friday. It's £25, but it's got to be worth a try - if nothing else it will be relaxing :)

If the baby isn't in the right place, I think spending as much time upright or on your hands and knees is meant to help (rather than slouching on the sofa). Rather than standing up the whole time, try and sit upright, or kneel with your back straight, or sit straddling a dining chair turned the wrong way round (so your arms can lean on the back of the chair if you see what I mean).

Septemberbaby on here was induced just after Christmas, and if you look back you can find her birth story - it sounds like she had a very quick and (relatively) easy birth once it got started, so I don't think being induced is necessarily something to panic about! It's probably worth you having a look back to find her birth story, it might calm your fears a bit :) Good luck!

(edited to add - story is on this page, post 2503, not too far from the top)

i was induced however they never used the gels on me they broke my waters and put me on a drip??? both times everything went well but TBH i would rather go myself as it was more bearable and i seemed to be more in control.
i walked and walked with Charlie and luckily he arrived on his due date:D

good luck to all those with scans! labour vibes for all in need and ill be looking for them soon enough:D think im going to head to sainsburys for the 1/3rd off to stock up on wipes and other essentials, not nappies obviously lol:D xx
