Have been to doctors this morning to fill in forms and she mentioned about folic acid I have been really struggling to take this as it makes me sick every time, she had a bit of a moan about how important it is and I must try and keep it down.....easier said than done. Is there any foods that are worth trying to eat more off that may give me some of the benifits of the folic acid??? Took your advice and have been eating first thing before i get out of bed and seems to be helping also been drinking loads of milk seems to be the only thing i seem to want to drink that doesnt make me feel sick!

Leafy green vegetables are a good source, so try to have a large bowl of salad daily. Other sources include:
• 11 Brussels sprouts: 127 mcg
• large jacket potato: 39 mcg
• 4 tbsp black eyed beans: 220 mcg
• 7 tbsp bran flakes: 113 mcg
• 25g / 1oz wheat germ: 100 mcg
• 4 spears steamed or boiled asparagus: 88 mcg
• medium sized papaya: 115 mcg.
• 2 spears steamed broccoli: 61 mcg
• large orange: 54 mcg
• large hard-boiled egg: 22 mcg
• 75g / 3oz tinned salmon: 17 mcg
FYI Delicate folic acid in foods is destroyed by overcooking, so cook in a covered pan with the minimum amount of boiling water. Try to eat vegetables lightly steamed, microwaved, or raw.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

aylesburygirl - how far along are you? I know it is a water soluble vit but i was told by an embryologist that often by the time pregnancy is confirmed alot of the relevant growth will be progressing and that folic acid taken after that time doesn't actually hold much benefit. She said any problems likely to occur would've only been avoided had you started taking folic acid whist TTC. Again i know it's not fat soluble so it doesn't make much sense to me, but thought i should pass it on!
Is it prenatals that are making you sick or just individual folic acids? Worth trying individual tabs if you aren't already. Cereals have added folic acid too so a quick and easy source.0 -
R.mac - having 2 breakfasts is what being pregnant is FOR!!! I've only had 1 so far, but it was massive. I didn't fancy breakfast food, so I had pasta instead. It's only 10 though, so there is still time

aylesburygirl - I am only taking folic acid, not the complete vitamin - as I was having difficulty with the vitamin. The folic acid tablet is teeny tiny - no problems at all. If it's just a little tablet, can you put it in a spoonful of something smooth (like angel delight or whipped cream) and swallow it that way?MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0

aylesbury, try taking it last thing at night before you go to bed if you can... Sleep through the worst of it... It made quite a few of us on here feel sick too...
I had 2 breakfasts today too! Hubby kindly popped me some toast in before he left so all I had to do was add butter and jam when I got up... Just had a couple of french set yoghurts... I love set yoghurt!!!!!!A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

well I had a bowl of fruit and fibre and then a bowl of porridge. I may need to supplement that with a midmorning slice of cake to get me through to lunch time
