Cos I had a colposcopy (Sp?) about 10 years ago, I will have to have a stitch in my cervix (sorry if TMI) so can't have a home birth. Am quite bothered by that cos thats what I wanted most but hey ho. Anyone else had to have a stictch and can fill me in at all?

I had a colposcopy about 2 years ago and nobody has mentioned me having to have a stitch put in?!

Feelie, good luck with the powder for the GTT, tastes rank!_pale_I spent 3 hours waiting to see it again when I had the first GTT but the midwife told me our hospital have changed it to lucozade now as the result is the same apparently... Can't stand lucozade but it's gotta be better than the powder!

MrsT - get your MW to refer you to the physio. And whilst I think about it did you try the gaviscon??

Mmm I'm gonan have to go and see them about it aren't I? Bah humbug! Work just gonna think it's another excuse not to work from the office because they are like that (ironically my boss won't mind - so long as I do my job she couldn't care less!) and I really didn't want to go back in again but if it gets any worse I'll have to I guess... I've always had jibs from that hip (well... since I had a very drunken night out with a few mates and I was so far gone I couldn't stand up (I don't remember this btw - first and only time ever!) so my mate carried me in a firemans lift - unfortunately he was nearly as drunk as me and dropped me... Regained consciousness at about 6 am with a hip that felt like it was dislocated and heard a load snap - lots of pain and it was better but sore for ages... guess I should have had it checked 8 years ago when I did it lol - I'm certainly paying for it now!

Edit to say yes I did try gaviscon and it sucks... yucky yucky yucky... take it when I have no choice as it makes me gag... *sigh*

I had a colposcopy years ago as well. The midwife and GP didn't ask me if I'd had one. Do I need to ask about this? I had DS 2.5 years ago, and they never asked me then either. Is cerclage (the stitch) always required here when you have history of colposcopy or are there extenuating circumstances?

I had mine since I had DD, I've mentioned it to the midwife and I think maybe the consultant when and neither of them were overly concerned.... Surely if a stitch was routine it would of cropped up in conversation before now?

Mainly would depend on if they took a biopsy I would have thought really... I had one when I was about 8 weeks pregnant I think it was... but they didn't take a biopsy just had a look and said it was such a minor leasion that really it wasn't enough to worry about - probably a viral infection if that... Didn't even want me back after Bean arrives just said to have normal smear 6 months after Bean at my surgery like normal.
I think it's if they remove something the scar tissue can be more likely to tear and even then it might depend on where they took it :)

  • :rotfl: surely I can't be the only person in the world who likes their tins in the right order???

No your not! All tins need to be in groups ie. vegetables need to be together, tinned fish, soups, pulses, tinned fruit etc. :rotfl:

Molly - I keep remembering snippets of what the physio told me - my hubby waited outside. Although to be honest as I stood with my trousers rolled up to the knees and down to the hips and my top ruffled around my boobage I was quite glad that he couldn't see me to take the pee! Did you get a support belt?

No support belt at the moment as I don't have much of a bump yet anyway, but this will be reviewed at the next appointment in february.

I didn't have to get undressed at this appointment. However she got out the scale model of ladies bits at one point and gave us a very graphic description of where everything is and what it does , which I thought might have sent hubby over the edge, but he said it didn't faze him in the slightest and "learnt a lot":rotfl:

OMG I swear the ITV website is written by chimps
"Yes, it appears that Ellery is much more concerned about the frills than the spills!"
    They mean Thrills!
Sorry I had to vent that somewhere it does my head in, last year when garath gates performed to "wake me up, before september comes" by greenday the website said he performed to Wham's "wake me up" :rotfl: couldn't have mixed up 2 more different songs

I think they DO mean frills as he then goes on to say how he's not looking forward to the costumes

My 'baby brain' seems to have started now and I'm getting lots of things wrong when I'm normally so picky about certain things. It's annoying the hell out of me, I'm even insisting things are wrong when they are right, which is probably what happened to you Sami!!

Have I opened a can of worms? I hope not.

When I had the colposcopy (the laser treatment to remove pre-cancerous cells from my cervix-I'm sure thats the right word) the doc said to me then that I might well need a stitch if I ever get pregnant.

I spoke to the midwife today for the first time (its very early for me) and mentioned what he said and all she said was we can talk about it more when she comes on Tues to do my 'history' and if I do have a stitch, I can't have a home birth (although someone said earlier today it should be possible).

I'll have to do a bit more research (it's still not really real - even after 5 (yes 5) BFP's) and see what she says next tues. It's good to hear that its not ness a definate need though.

    Thanks

  • You just reminded me molly - on New Years Eve I had a MW appointment to discuss my birth plan. Hubby had been out on the pop the night before with his mates and I had said that he didn't need to come with me if he didn't want to (appointment was 10am).

Anyway, he got up and came with me (stinking of beer  ) full of good intentions. Until MW started talking about the mucus plug and some of the more gory stuff - hubby went as white as a sheet but managed to hold his own! Bless him.

Seriously ladies, I would recommend that your hubbys come to that appointment with you if poss - especially if, like mine, they are a bit 'can't you just give birth on a bed like a normal woman'. I think it really opened hubbys eyes that gravity is a useful birthing tool and that water can be a good method of relieving pain (he is the first to run me a bath when I have a sore back etc).

Also apparently a lot has changed in the 9 years since DSS was born so it is worth re-doing it for all the dads who have done it before but not recently.

Jam, when it comes to homebirths I think any excuse to get you into a hospital is a good excuse for some midwives...
