I guess it depends on if they think you are at risk of gestational diabetes mainly
Have you had any bloods done already that might have indicated a reason for them to want to test you?
If you are over weight they can also use it to detect subsets of hypothalamic obesity (not saying anyone who's had the tests are overweight btw - it's only one of the things they can use it to test!).
Edited to say that Yes Sami I am one of those annoying people who just has to find the answers because if I don't they bug the living daylights out of meI can't stand surprises either - drives husband up the wall! I ALWAYS want to know what pressies he's bought me before I get them :rotfl:
no need to explain Tine, I know that bit of you well enough nowI actually went of to get a proper answer but got distracted by all the facebook requests!
I'm not complaining btw I'm really glad its got going so quickly! :T I was scared that no-one would join when I created it0 -
Caz on the dark blue bar at the top hover over settings and a little menu will show, click on privacy and you can set it so you don't show up if someone searches for you by name, isn't a friend of a friend etc.0

Hi Ladies!
Just a quick question...
Has anyone been for a glucose tolerance test? If so, what do they do, and does it really last 2 hours?
I've got to go for one next month, I can't even remember what for now??
I am going for mine tomorrow Shellsuit.
The lady on the phone told me that i am not to eat anything after 9.00pm this evening, and only drink water thereafter.
I will have bloods taken, then be given an extremely sugary drink and then bloods taken again after that. The reason being that they are seeing how your body reacts to taking in soooooo much sugar. I have been told to allow 2 - 2.5 hours for the test.
I presume the reason for testing me is a higher BMI and I also have diabetes in my family (although i do not think that is a reason becuase it was 'old age' diabetes that is managed by diet and tablets, not insulin).
Wish I could take some work with me actually to do at the hospital as there is going to be a lot of waiting.

I've got my Glucose Tolerance Test at the end of January.
Here, I've got the powder to make the drink up. I've got to make it up at 8:10am, then have my blood tested at 10:10am.
I don't have to wait at the hospital, as long as I get there early enough so they can do the test at exactly 10:10am.
I imagine that if it is a hospital that has had a lot of lates, they might make you wait there.
They don't take bloods before the drink here.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -

Right... seeing as you guys know everything, where has DH put my hairbrush? I want to go to the supermarket, and it would be a ~really~ good idea if I brushed my hair before I went!!!

Just spoken with our midwife and she is coming to see me on Tues (are there are no appointments soon at the doc and I needed to see her cos of my history - see below). I am 5 weeks gone by my dates.
Cos I had a colposcopy (Sp?) about 10 years ago, I will have to have a stitch in my cervix (sorry if TMI) so can't have a home birth. Am quite bothered by that cos thats what I wanted most but hey ho. Anyone else had to have a stictch and can fill me in at all?
PS Will prob have to have the glucose thing too cos I'm not the smallest person!!
Thank you!My baby girl :kisses3: September 09 :heartsmil0
