I felt what could have been a proper kick earlier...was near my bladder so I then urgently needed the loo (naughty baby!). I think I could feel it more as I have on mat jeans with a belt on (so they don't fall down) which is a little tight accross the bottom of my bump when I'm sat down.

I'm at that really akward too big for normal clothes and too small for mat clothes. Has anyone found a solution?

Stretchy jeans :) I like them anyway but found that they allowed me to get past the between stage - now I'd have to wear them unbuttoned but have my maternity jeans instead which rocks :) SOOO much more comfy!

  • Congratulations SB. I hadn't got online until now, and I came straight here to see if you had any news :) We need pictures and a birth story when you've got the energy please!

Shellsuit, so long as you earn enough (over £90 per week) then you would be entitled to a full weeks SSP for each week you are off, once you have got past the qualifying period (the first 3 days you are off sick that you would normally be in work). SSP is £75.40 a week. It doesn't matter if you work part time or full time, you are still entitled to the full weekly amount if you are off a whole week, so long as you earn enough to be entitled to it. Let me know if that doesn't make sesne, and I'll PM you with a better explaination! (Working in payroll has some uses!) Obviously, I don't know what your company would pay you in terms of sick pay, as it might be they have some policy to top it up a bit to start with at least?

And I'm glad to hear everyone's scans went well. I'm now trying to work out if I know any vets, but I don't think I do. Hopefuly I only have a week or so to go before I meet baby face to face though, so I should be able to wait that long!

  • Congratulations SB - so happy that Jamie finally made his arrival. 28th December is a lovely birthday to have - one of my best friends was born on that day and it is in that lull between Christmas and New Year when everybody loves visiting and parties!

What a size! Bless him, no wonder he wanted to stay put!

CONGRATULATIONS SB, I look forward to the birth story....first thing I thought was how strange that they both came 11 days late too......

Pickle - My belly did exactly the same thing, I think it is mostly hormones and water retention that make your belly swell up before 12 wks....

Merlot - I work part time, and am entitled to sick pay (for a certain amount of wks) at my usual pay amount!! Check yours out....Also I think, they can only 'force' you to start your maternity leave if you are off sick in the last 4 wks of pregnancy. I you ask your doctor they probably can prescribe a painkiller for you of some kind, although it won't be particularly strong, probably no more stronger than you can buy over the counter. They may refer you for physio though????

Stargirl - I went into joggers between 16-26wks, as it was all I could feel comfortable in. also bought a few pairs of maternity leggings, and wear them with long dress type jumpers with ugg boots....fashionable and warm!!!

SB WOW! - That's the average size of girls in DHs family so I feel for ya! I'm hoping if we have a girl she takes more after MY family! :D

Shellsuit - yes there is some regulations about safe working etc - let me see if I can dig it out for ya :)

  • okay, okay... I'm 12+ weeks and going craaaazy!!!

Allsymptoms subsided and the bloated belly is gone and I'm flat bellied again.

Anyone else lose their bumps? I'm convinced my pregnancy has stopped.

Make the most of it LP - mine came a little later but that burst of energy and end of constant nausea is a wonderful part of pregnancy.

Bumps change constantly - I woke up the other morning and my belly button was a borderline outie ( ) and today it is a way innie again  It's like someone let some air out in the night :rotfl:

Ahhh thanks you! I think I understand :o lol

I get £91.68 a week in wages. It's only a small shop (well, bakery and butchers) I work in, so I wouldn't get anything extra than I'm entitled to.

I work 8 hours on a Wednesday and 8 hours on a Thursday, so obviously the first week I would get nothing ~ what would I get the 2nd week as one of those days would be my 3rd day? Would I just get sick pay for the one day??

It's so confusing lol, I've never been signed off sick in my life!

Also, is sick pay paid the same way as usual pay? I get paid in cash weekly you see, so would I have to call into work to pick it up?

Sorry for all the questions! :o

EDIT : Just been on the HMRC site and used their SSP calculator and it says I can't get sick pay but must claim social security benefits as I don't pay National Insurance (because I don't earn enough to)??

    Hi all..

Congrats to SB!! I agree with MFD, lovely time for a birthday between xmas and new year. Hope you and the not-so-little one are doing well and Poppy is loving being Big Sis! :D

I never got into work mode today and nearly fell asleep at my desk a few times! Have kept my travel sickness bands on all day and I think they've helped. I've only felt sick when suddenly but extremely hungry and Cadbury's chocolate fingers have sorted that out! ;)

    Linky to HSE

On page 5 I think it is there is a very snazzy flowchart that explains that they must identify the risk to you - ie standing up (this is where a doctors letter might help...) and they must remove this risk. If they cannot (ie if they won't give you a sit down job) then they must suspend you ON FULL PAY for as long as the risk remains to you and your baby - that doesn't mean you start maternity 11 weeks before baby is due tho... I think the earliest they can "force" you to start it is 4 weeks before your due date isn't it? I could be wrong...

  • Baby brain + Holiday Mode = dizzier than normal ;)

Whoever it was that said they had sciatica - the physiotherapist this morning said loads of women think that they have sciatica when they haven't...but I can't for the life of me remember what she was talking about :o

She did say that they should all ask their midwives to be referred for a proper physio assessment though.

Not sure that is at all helpful :rotfl:
