  • yep, you'd get £37.70 for each day you are off sick once you've been past the 3 qualifying days. (if you worked full time you would get £15.08 per day, so if you were off a whole week you would still get the weekly amount.... although it would take less time for a full time person to get past those qualifying days.)
They should pay it to you the same as you get your normal pay, so if you are normally paid weekly, they would have to keep paying you weekly (it is also taxable and ni-able, although if SSP is the only thing you receive, it won't be enough for you to pay ni on it, and depending on your tax code, you probably won't have to pay any tax on it either). If you normally get paid in cash, I would think they would keep paying you in that way, but it might be you can send them a letter asking them to put a cheque in the post instead, or authorising them to give the money to your mum or something?

Before you get signed off, it might be worth seeing if they are happy to make some kind of adjustments to your work (maybe do 4 half days or get you to do the paperwork so you can sit down?). Seeing as it's such a small company that might not be practical, but it's worth asking.

On page 5 I think it is there is a very snazzy flowchart that explains that they must identify the risk to you - ie standing up (this is where a doctors letter might help...) and they must remove this risk. If they cannot (ie if they won't give you a sit down job) then they must suspend you ON FULL PAY for as long as the risk remains to you and your baby - that doesn't mean you start maternity 11 weeks before baby is due tho... I think the earliest they can "force" you to start it is 4 weeks before your due date isn't it? I could be wrong...

Thanks MrsTine! I'll have a look through that now xx

Baby brain + Holiday Mode = dizzier than normal ;)

Whoever it was that said they had sciatica - the physiotherapist this morning said loads of women think that they have sciatica when they haven't...but I can't for the life of me remember what she was talking about :o

She did say that they should all ask their midwives to be referred for a proper physio assessment though.

Not sure that is at all helpful :rotfl:

Yep, I read that too, it's called pelvic girdle something or other, which happens to a lot of women in pregnancy. When I went for my scan last week and told the Doctor what I'd been feeling, she said it was sciatica.

It was the numbness I have and the location of it which she said makes the difference to sciatica and the pelvic girdle thingymajig! (Can't remember the exact name for it sorry lol)

  • Hi i'm back.

Now the proud owner of a baby boy 8lb 15oz. We have called him Gethin Morgan.
I must say that giving birth was the worst and most traumatic experince ever. Everything that could go wrong did and i had bloody students for everything that couldn't even take my bloods proberly. So i didn't have home birth in the end.

I am never doing it again and i'm so glad it's over. I do have the cutest baby ever though i still don't really feel like he's mine more like i'm babysitting atm
I have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammar :)

God that's unfair isn't it! What I mean is, my Dad had radiotherapy early this year and was off sick for a couple of months. He got the £70 odd a week SSP, but he dropped from a full weeks wage (5 full working days) to £70 odd! I'll be dropping only from £91! (and I only work 2 full days) HUGE difference isn't it

The shop is only a 5 minute walk away so it isn't a problem getting there to get the cash.

I'll see what my GP says in the morning and if I get signed off, I'll pop into work with my sick note.

I just like to know everything beforehand (I always worry about everything!) so I know what I'm entitled to, incase my boss says I'm entitled to sod all lol (which he would be if he knew he could get away with it!)

Thanks ladies, you have been a HUGE huge help! xxxxx
