That is only a problem if you let your pregant wife clean the litter tray and pick up cat poop etc. Good hygine should ensure that there is no threat from any contamination cat or not :)

Yep, its in their "little presents" I used to be the one that emptied the cat litter at MIL's (I didn't even live there so no idea how it ended up always being me! ) but I didn't do it again after finding out I was up'th duff. I'm also allergic to he cats which isn't normally a prob but no anti-histamines during preg meant I had to avoid them like the plague when visiting :(

  • although she only uses the tray on rare occasions it's the best excuse I've ever found to not clean out the litter tray...I'm hoping that it's a no-no whilst breast feeding too! ;)

  • stargirl if your cat is anything like my two it won't go anywhere near baby, my dd is 5 now and still can't get the cats to go anywhere near her!

The thing to do is not let it in the room the baby will eventually be sleeping in from now and then it won't bother when baby arrives, as for getting in the moses basket the baby will make enough noise when its awake to scare the cat away and mine never investigated again.

I think the cats temperament matters... 1 of my cats, Sassi, I have no worries about, she's likes a fuss but not overly, prefers to sleep on her own most of the day... Of the other 2, Shmokes is a meanie, she's very antisocial and has a tendency to strike out at DD if she's in a bad mood and also picks on the other cats, my worry for her though is more when baby is mobile so I will cross that bridge when I come to it... My biggest worry for a newborn is Tabby Tabson... He is a very needy little cat, has to be sitting on you, or near you most of the time, very fussy, very purry... But my biggest fear is I will turn round and find him curled up with baby... Night times are easy, Tabson and Sassi sleep in the kitchen with the tray (Otherwise tabson is on my pillow nudging my face for attention all the while, I can't sleep with him loose) and Shmokes is either out or sleeps on the top of the stairs... And during the day I would just make sure that baby is where I can see, or Tabs is out of the way... With any luck he will be outdoors by then anyway, I keep him in while he is still so cute and needy just in case someone nabs him...
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Krystal, the problem my friend has with her toddler is that she gets in the cats bed :rotfl:
