Several of you owe the BG an apology - I doubt any of you are big enough to go away, cool down and offer that apology: publicly.
Very true, I've already been told to grow up today because I disagreed with someone in another thread. Then I was called a cheeky c*w! It's that way of people needing to put down others opinion because they don't agree with that I have experienced today firsthand.

Anyway, let's hope that a decision is made tomorrow and we end up with a happy house price forum again.
If the decision isn't made tomorrow I'll dig out an article about 50% price drops on a block of new build flats, post up the link, and we'll still have a happy house price forum again.0 -

But no doubt it would be moved as this forum is about HOUSE prices not FLAT prices. You see, we can't stray off topic here, it's a big no no in these here parts.0 -
True that there is no need for rudeness. That goes for the 'board guides' also - some have been very rude in making replies to questions. The reason this sort of outcry has not been made before is that the 'board guides' have not unilaterally shifted stuff around to such an extent and for such spurious reasons. They made the choice to do so and they should expect to be challenged on that. Getting defensive and making rude and sarcastic posts aimed at board members is out of order.
Pot meet kettle. Don't be so rude.
Because quietly accepting what a business choses to do is what MSE is all about isn't it?
More rudeness.
Also, we are CONSUMERS of this site. This site generates a lot of money for Martin. It is therefore a successful business and if a large proportion of the customers are not happy then the owner needs to take a look at that.
Again, get over yourselves, 40 odd of you does not consititute a large proportion - just a proportion who were so self-important that they could not query the changes through the appropriate channels and await an outcome. Instead they felt they had the right to be rude to a volunteer. How very big of them:D
Again you are exceptionally rude. Being charitable I'd say you got a bit over-excited and expressed something you regret. I expect you will be apologising for that now, yes?
No, I will not. You are just offering a prime example of the arrogance that caused the rudeness to the BG in the first place, and the bad manners that allow you to consider that you had the right to be that rude. Attempting to turn it into other people being rude and thus you were allowed to play tit for tat is childish, so you really do need to go suck your comforter:D The "dressing down" you have had from me is not rudeness, it is a much needed lesson in manners."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
This is all getting very silly. Its obvious that Divadee is the wrong person to be moderating a forum on house prices when she does not understand that, for example, BTL issues are inextricably linked to short term house price rises and falls and decides that a topic discussing BTL belongs in another forum.
This is such a wonderful place and it's a shame that the atmosphere has turned all because a moderator, through no fault of her own, has misread the situation, not understood the issues and has then acted in good will.
What really ought to happen now is for someone to make a decision, accept that Divadee was wrong and offer clear guidance as to what issues are relevant and acceptable.
Let's wait for whoever it is that makes these decisions to come into the office tomorrow and clear this mess up.
As a suggestion from me, there are a number of very knowledgeable people in the house prices forum who would make excellent moderators. Perhaps someone like 'Pastures New' (just an example) would be a good choice. I think that having people who know about the issues pertaining to a board would make good mods. I for example would be hopeless in the bankrupcy section as I have no idea in the slightest about it. At the same time I'd be much more likely to be effective in a forum on banking, FSA, regulations, derivates and risk management.
The house price forum has been such a good forum for a long time, it does strike me as a little silly to go in and tear the place apart because one thinks a couple of topics are off topic. Crazy really.
Anyway, let's hope that a decision is made tomorrow and we end up with a happy house price forum again.
Exactly! A little patience is all it would have taken."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

I'm afraid that I simply do not agree with the ongoing personal attacks on, and undermining of, divadee over this issue. And, underneath all of the camouflaging verbiage, that's what you are doing.
Just because you and other posters disagree with divadee's actions, her inerpretation of the threads in question, or anything else, that does not necessarily mean that she is the wrong person to be moderating the board. Nor does it necessarily mean that she was wrong. It certainly does not justify the public ridicule and humilaition she has been subjected to here; nor does it justify this campaign to have her removed as board guide.
If this thread is anything to go by, the 'atmosphere' has been caused by the reactions to divadee moving the threads. How difficult would it have been for posters to simply state that they disagreed with the threads being moved, and ask for it the decision be reconsidered? And then open the threads, wherever they'd ended up, and carry on their discussions, pending a decision by those who are empowered to take them? They would be under no obligation to join in any of the other threads on the forum the 'house prices' threads had been moved to.
Had that happened, the protest would still have been noticed; the discussions would still have continued; and an 'atmosphere' would have been avoided.
The part I have highlighted in your post is, IMO, prejudging any decision made by those in charge of MSE. You believe that divadee was wrong. Others agree with you. Others believe she was right. MSE bosses will take their own view. That decision may prove to be different from your view that divadee was wrong. I hope that - if that proves to be the case - you will still have a 'happy house prices forum' once the decision is made.
Unfortunately, it is my impression - gained from reading these posts, and a few on the House Prices board - that anything short of public dresisng down for divadee, removal of her status as board guide, reinstatement of the moved threads, and a tacit acceptance that the house prices board can decide for themselves what to post, will be seen as 'closing ranks'.
Incisor has used the phrase 'you're here to serve, not to rule', with reference to the BGs, several times. It has not been challenged by anyone who is arguing against the removal of the threads.
It does make me wonder if there's not just a little bit of transference going on here - who is it that really wants to rule? And I fnd it shocking that anyone should believe that fellow members of MSE are here to 'serve' and to jump to the peremptory instructions of other board members (even if that might put them in conflict with MSE management).0 -

I have reported you for your abuse. You have NO right to speak to me in the way you have done or the way in which you are continuing to. Inane, who the hell do you think you are - have you got nothing better to do than to argue with people?! I PM'd you to tell you that I found you very rude and to stop and you sent me one back calling me a cheeky cow (very original!) Obviously others on here are seeing you for what you are, someone who wanders around boards looking for people to antagonise.
Now **** off!
and WHAT I choose to thank Stevie for is NONE of your business!0 -
Which would have been helped by board guides not circling waggons and by an early recognition that there is an issue with the board guides looking at the strength of feeling and saying 'OK, lets wait until the office is open, we accept the need for guidance'
Equally, from an outsiders's point of view, the supporters of the status quo on the house prices board can also be described as having 'circled wagons'.
Wagons were usually circled to protect against attack.
So, quite appropriate that you should use that phrase with reference to the board guides. Given the amount of attacking they have faced today.
The board guides have said from the early in this discussion that they will wait until the office is opened and take guidance.
The threads in question, AIUI, have been moved, not deleted - so discussion on them can continue until the PTB have made a final decision on what to do with them.
Under those circumstances, why are the board guides still being attacked, and pressurised to move the threads again, prior to the PTB considering the situation?0
