Having been yesterday morning that the car would be looked at later that day, I called today to find out their assessment. It seems they haven't had a look at it, didn't prioritise it as there was a car out on courtesy, and they are trying to get money back from the Cambridge garage who confirmed the fault..... so much for customer service, the fee they were charged did receive a lot of importance in the call.... Professional Standards? The customer shouldn't be involved in any dispute and unprofessional practice I was told.
The Lanarkshire garage also said that the Cambridge garage may have done some damage to the engine when they tested it....
I called the Cambridge garage and let them know our present predicament, and they said they would call the Lanarkshire garage.

Then about 10 mins after I had spoken to the Cambridge garage I got a call from the Lanarkshire garage to say they have spoken to the Cambridge garage and confirmed that the Cambridge garage only took their test so far and realised that any additional work would have meant dismantling the engine. And now Lanarkshire will dismantle the manifold and assess the situation..... today or tomorrow.....
