Disastrous Car Servicing... anyone legally minded?
Comments

Oh and by the way, my Dad's car is used for a total of about 5 miles a week,
not only did he pay over £2500 for the last service
5 miles per week
52 weeks per year
260 miles per year
£2500 service bill
£9.61 per mile:eek:
I hope your Dad has a good pension or is he a Rally driver, I think we should be told.
Good Luck in sorting this out...keep us posted!0 -
he did get a new cat, but I don't the exact details at the moment.0

Another thing I'd like to know, is did they fit just the cam belt? Did they replace the tensioner/idlers (if applicable) too?? Practise should be to change belt and tensioner/s. No good changing just the belt and then the tensioner gives out - then the belts gone...engine b*ggered...........

im presuming the lanarkshire vw garage is the one in law, im not to far from there.
the engine will be knackered if the timing belt has snapped at motorway speeds, even at a low speed this would cause damage to an engine.
the thing im finding strange (and im sure the lanarkshire vw garage is too) is that if the belt was changed 2 months ago and was fitted incorrectly it would have failed much sooner, unless something has been rubbing against it to wear it thin?
or maybe the belt was never changed in the first place.
the garage will need this belt returned to them so the manager can see for himself and go about dealing with your problem, and if the belt or another part was faulty can prove this to vw
legally im not sure where you stand on getting compensation from them, they have supplied you with another vehicle. its a pain and it has put you out, disrupted your life a bit and not really your fault, but sometimes these things will happen in life and you just need to get on with things.
i would think the high excess is due to the fact people in your situation might well be angry with the dealer and take it out on thier car.
either way i hope you get it sorted out soon.
so titherev, was this another fantastic genuine vw part fitted by an expert vw trained technician?
Please tell me that the work done was not by relatives of yours Goldspangles...
could explain alot tho....Genie

WHAT EVERYBODY HAS APPEARED TO HAVE MISSED IS THE FOLLOWING:
To the OP. How did you know that they'd changed the cambelt? Are you assuming it was done because you had the car serviced? I ask because at every single garage I've ever known, a cambelt change isn't done automatically with a service and is booked in as a seperate job.
Had you specifically taken the car to have a cambelt fitted or are you assuming it had had a new one? A cambelt failing because it's not been changed when it should have done does the same damage as a badly fitted one.0 -

If the Lanarkshire dealer doesn't pay up then I think you should get in touch vw uk and if problem still not resolve, issue small claims court proceeding. They are liable for the cost of subsquence motoring expenses after the fault.
They only have a contract with the owner of the car."Love you Dave Brooker! x"
