Whats happening to the car now? Have they replaced the head/fixed it?
£750 excess is a ridiculous amount, i wouldn't have paid that either.
I feel sorry for your dad!0 -

Why should they also give someone who's not even the owner of the car £750??
Compensation is not something that is automatically due in every trivial situation...
I'm not suggesting they compensate him, but that the amount of £750 excess seems high.
my excess isn't anywhere near that, and from the numerous cars I have leased, £750 has never been suggested as an excess.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -

The car should have got back to the garage on Friday some time so now sure what has happened to it at the moment. I'll be calling tomorrow.
I also feel sorry for my Dad, not only did he pay over £2500 for the last service, but they have managed to mess up his car, great style....
Brooker Dave>> I haven't suggested they give me £750, that's the excess they were charging on their insurance. We did ask if we could pay something to reduce the excess as we have done in the past with hire cars. We got an outright refusal. However I would like to be reimbursed for the expenses we incurred as a result of their inability to service the car correctly, ie we HAD to hire a car as they initially informed us on the Monday that they would NOT supply a courtesy car, they then sent one on the Thursday. We also had to pay for transport of the car to the VW dealer. These charges would not have been incurred if the car had been properly serviced a few months ago. Indeed I wouldn't have had to post this thread.
But thanks for your comments anyway.:D0 -

Over £2500???? Lord, you could buy a new car for that! (well nearly)
Service and cam belt etc... what else could they possibly do for that price??
A new engine could be less than that above amount!!
Please keep us informed as to how they compensate your Dad etc.

I can't wait to see what he says either.... should I contact him direct.....?
Not sure what he got done exactly, the Bora is an 02 though.0 -
thats a crazy amount of money to spend on a 6 year old car on preventative maintenance.
im presuming the lanarkshire vw garage is the one in law, im not to far from there.
the engine will be knackered if the timing belt has snapped at motorway speeds, even at a low speed this would cause damage to an engine.
the thing im finding strange (and im sure the lanarkshire vw garage is too) is that if the belt was changed 2 months ago and was fitted incorrectly it would have failed much sooner, unless something has been rubbing against it to wear it thin?
or maybe the belt was never changed in the first place.
the garage will need this belt returned to them so the manager can see for himself and go about dealing with your problem, and if the belt or another part was faulty can prove this to vw
legally im not sure where you stand on getting compensation from them, they have supplied you with another vehicle. its a pain and it has put you out, disrupted your life a bit and not really your fault, but sometimes these things will happen in life and you just need to get on with things.
i would think the high excess is due to the fact people in your situation might well be angry with the dealer and take it out on thier car.
either way i hope you get it sorted out soon.
so titherev, was this another fantastic genuine vw part fitted by an expert vw trained technician?...work permit granted!0 -
Some of you lot have problems reading and understanding and should not reply if cannot understand the problem which has been presented quite clearly with full details.
The belt has been identified as fitted incorrectly by a vw dealer and an independent garage so you/your dad should presue all cost that you'd incurred due to the fault. I not not sure whether you will get anything from the date (thursday) they agreed to send you a loan car (so hire car expense may not be met from thursday) , but certainly all other expenses. I know the excess seems high but do not know if that's standard and legal.
If the Lanarkshire dealer doesn't pay up then I think you should get in touch vw uk and if problem still not resolve, issue small claims court proceeding. They are liable for the cost of subsquence motoring expenses after the fault.0 -
I called them to get an update on the car. Thy haven't looked at it yet, it seems they just got it today.....
We returned the hire car once car from VW dealership arrived.
cheers
