They all seem to be pretty unhelpful - BT always have been and OFCOM seem to be a waste of tax payers money.
Best of luck !

I am now up and running on eclipse - several days before I am due to be enabled.
The speed is still 1M so I guess that BT will make the speed change on 2nd August which is my official go live date.
I called the eclipse customer support line - 01392 333300 - a normal (cheap) landline !!! and they were very helpful even though I was not yet supposed to be connected!
All good so far - I'm looking forward to the speed upgrade though! To infinity and beyond!0 -
ok, so here's my latest update...
I phoned BT to find out what the problem with this 'DACS' was and i got a whole run around of numbers to call. Eventually i managed to get through to a REAL PERSON ( a rare thing for BT ). This person proceeded to tell me that it was not BT's problem and to contact ofcom.
Ofcom put me through to a nice gentleman who proceeded to tell me that it was not at all Ofcom's problem and that BT would have to sort it out. He said to contact my future ISP and ask them to get the ball rolling and get BT to sort out my phoneline. If they did not, then he would get the process initiated.
An email was sent to Eclipse and two days later a reply was recieved. Eclipse told me that they couldn't do anything about it and to get in contact with BT and that Ofcom had given me incorrect information!
A second call was then made to Ofcom to inform the gentleman that nothing could be done by Eclipse and that they said the information was incorrect. He said that he would contact BT and ask that something be done about this, but if the job costs more than £10,000 then BT will do nothing! I have to call back next wednesday to find out the latest.
Why are things never as easy and straightforward as they are made out to be??0 -
I was on the bbuk network and I have not been able to get on the internet since the 6th and I have no dial up since e7 went under. I have had to drive to friends to use their internet so that I can see what you are all doing. I have done a check on my line through talktalk and the message I got was that they are unable to offer broadband at this time. Can anyone please advise me on what I can do? I will be able to get to this computer again tomorrow night. I do hope someone will be able to help. many thanks Josie0

Its simple and non technical. Just type in your phone number and if the line is clear the answer will look like this:-
"Our tests show that your local BT exchange is capable of all speeds up to 8000 Kbps although your line is likely to connect at a rate of approximately 5000 Kbps.
Usually ADSL is activated within 3-4 working days. You can track the progress of the install online after you have ordered."
I would think the bank is still liable but it would be worth checking with a free online solicitor that usually come with car or home insurance policies. Some are a 24hr service.0 -

I'm using a dial up service from https://www.fast4.net . Free phone signup 0800 089 0076 mon-fri, 9am-5pm. They send you a small file via email which sets it up for you. Its £4.99 per month There is no contract, unlimited use, they do cut you off automatically after 2 hours but you just reconnect straight away. Have had no problems, even had an email yesterday telling me that my first month is almost up.
Was the mastercard a debit or credit card. If debit card, bad luck as its not the same as a visa debit card, if credit card then don't be fobbed off by them.0 -
Many thanks to both of you. I will look into fast4 first thing tomorrow and have another go at Bank of Scotland as it was mastercard credit and not debit. The other bit of good news is it looks like my line is now free, the message has now changed. The next challange is to find a new provider at a price that I can afford, it looks like I should be able to get 4mg umm have I got that right!!! talktalk looks ok but It will not be free as we are out in the sticks and I doubt if they will ever get this far with their equipment. But the snag is it looks like it will take 6-8 weeks. I am now almost afraid to make a move in case I make another terrible mistake. Will be able to get on line again tomorrow morning and then with a bit of luck I might have dial up installed sometime in the week once again thanks0
