It's pretty clear from their T&Cs (which I have now just found
). These clauses here:
"3.1 The ADSL Service and ADSL ‘Wires Only’ Service is intended to provide the Customer or the End User with high speed network access to the Internet and will be provided to Customer or the End User at the premises as specified on the relevant service application form. The ADSL Service is provided on a minimum 12 months contract and the ADSL 'Wires Only' Service is provided on a minimum 12 months contract."
and
"8.5 The customer may exit a 12 month contract early only if they pay in full for the remaining time left on the contract. Transfer requests will only be considered after the term has fully matured."
They clearly say that it's 12 months and you can exit early, but you'll still have to pay for the remaing time AND wait until the 12 months is up before you get your MAC.0 -
Because of the doubts surrounding the validity of the Distance Selling Regulations in this case. I phoned up Trading Standards. I explained the situation in detail regarding E7 and Ezee. The guy explained that he thought the regulations still applied, but needed further confirmation. He asked me if it was OK to contact me further on this question.
I've just had a call from a senior trading standards official (my query had been passed up the line). They explained that in this case, even though the service had started. The 7 day cooling off period still applies. Further to this (it gets better), notice of a 7 day cooling off period should be contained in the terms for the new service (Ezee). If there is no refference to this in the terms, the cooling off period is extended to 3 months and 7 days (even if the service has started), or 7 days after they include this in their terms.
I've just been back and read through the Ezee terms very carefully. There is no refference at all to a 7 day cooling off period. This means you have a 3 month cooling off period with Ezee (or 7 days after they amend their terms). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Rex, what a good post. Should help quite a few people. And my clicking on the "Thanks" button isn't because it helps me but for the intended purpose of it being a really useful post.:T0

Was it you posting over at ADSLGuide on the OFCOM thread? If it was, I like your posts. I thought they were very sensible and balanced.
Yeah that was me, thanks
Anyone whose asking for a MAC wont get one. Simple fact. The most you'll get is a phsyical cease of the broadband on the line! So don't waste your time phoning asking for these codes as no one is authorised to give them out!0 -
I elected to use e7even because they were cheap ie £10 month, even though I paid 2yrs upfront. Now, like many other people caught in their trap, I seek an alternative provider. Looking at the list available, it really is a minefield elimination first one then another. Clearly for a great many people cost IS important. I've chosen talktalk because they are one of the largest, I accept that there wil;l be problems along the way. Having no had to live with or rather without an internet connection for 106 days, and anticipate this to continue, there can't be much more to go wrong.....can there ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. My Reccomendation is a company called Nildram.
They offer an 0800 No for cust serv (And will put you thru to technical if you ask nicely - for free_ and only charge a 15-99 fee which includes 300 minites (About £3 ) of phone calls per Mnth and up to 8meg (depends on your line).
Good write ups and I shall def be going with them.
Monthly Contract BTW.
As mentioned before, if you change the name of the account which pays your BT line (or claim that you are receiving loads of unsolicited calls, and get a number change) then that will clear the line (INC MAC) and you can connect in 7-10 days.
C U on Nildram!
Phone Number is 0800 197 1474 (9 till 5.30)
PS NO! I am not affiliated in any way.
Just trying to help.
That is the best I have found after a hell of a lot of research."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -

thats not strictly true, a simple name change in the billing or passed into a partners name will still retain the broadband over, so it doesnt always neccessarily mean that customers can achieve a service removal because of it.
And a number change will not clear the line anyway as broadband goes by address & not by telephone numbers. So if you have broadband at one address a number change will still not affect the service there!
Misleading information there!!! :rolleyes:0 -
hmmm... last year, i had my BT bill changed to my partner's name (not related to MAC or anything, just need to change the name on the bill). i had ADSL on the line but the BT guy (in india) said everyhing will be OK. i will keep the number, options, etc. only thing that will change is the name.
so nearer the time for the change, my ISP foned me up and said there's a cease on my line! so what can i do? my ISP said nothing they can do as BT put in the cease, so the only way to reconnect me is to cough up a reconnection fees of £50, effectively like i am a new ADSL user.
because it was BT error i was given the wrong info, BT refunded me the £50.
so in theory, a name change will cease the line.0 -

your case isnt a common occurance in all honesty & a genuine fault was made.
Having worked for the best part of a year on the work involved with making decisions for whether broadband should be retained or ceased when it comes to name changes/people taking over the line, im quite aware of sometimes stuff will get ceased, but the working practice is the broadband isnt automatically ceased because of a name change.
That doesnt mean people cant try, but id hate to be in the position where you do it, incur any charges & the broadband is still there.
But im just passing on my advice to what i would say i have a little more knowledge on that people here0
