After what I've read about Bulldog here and other places, I hope Mike has learned from past experience and will not start recommending Bulldog and enticing people there as he did with E7.

    Edit.
What I fail to understand is how Bulldog can offer up to 8M whilst BT cannot offer even 2M. This sugests that the copper is not capable and therefore the up to 8M may only be the same as BT is able to offer, i.e. 1M.

Bulldog are able to offer 8meg because they use different technology to deliver the data. They use somehting called Local Loop Unbundling, as do several other ISP's with speeds up in the 20meg region, obvioulsy this is dependant on your distance from your exchange. But speeds on LLU have always been greater then traditional ADSL, just not as common.

Local Loop Unbundling is NOT a new technology but simply allowing other operators to use the existing cable from the exchange into your home. And to install their equipment in the exchange. The equipment may be more updated than BTs but that still doesn't improve the copper cable which is the main drawback in trying to attain higher speed.

I will continue to recommend any service or company that is outstanding. If the company or service is not outstanding than I won't recommend them. As for enticing - I enticed nobody - everybody has a free decision. I don't and never have had anything to do with e7 other than being an extremely happy customer for 17 months until their mess this year. If Bulldog provide me with an excellent service (should I choose to go with them) then I will have no problem recommending them. I have read some adverse comments about them (and about every other isp) but I only know 1 person using them and they hold them in extremely high regard. I will speak as I see as always !

I am not quite sure what your beef is djohn2002uk but please do not post comments trying to make me seem a bad guy !

    From BBC news:
When local lines from phone exchanges are unbundled, net firms take them off BT and connect them directly to their own network. In this way they can typically offer higher speeds and a wider range of services to customers.

Maybe, but DJohn's comment is still correct - with LLU the ISP can install their own kit into the BT exchange, but the main limit is still the BT wires from the exchange to the customer. Why do all ISPs offer UP TO <insert megs of choice> meg?

Mike. I don't wish to paint you as a bad guy but you must admit, as others pointed out at the time, that you did seem to push E7 at every opportunity and no doubt quite a few people on here took your advice only to end up in a mess as you have. I never took issue with you at the time but did have suspicions regarding E7 taking advance payments to fund their activities.
That said, the next issue is Bulldog and I'm not going to try to dissuade you from joining them but again the first paragraph of your earlier post suggests that you will be getting close to 8Megs on copper wire on which no other ISP (including BT themselves) can achieve even 2Megs.
I would check again, because no amount of Bulldog kit in the exchange can change the physical structure of the line from the exchange to your house with it's problems due to twisted and soldered joints and bits let in over the years due to faults etc.. The only way that can be improved is by replacing it, and I can't see Bulldog being in a hurry to take on those sort of commitments.
One last thing that bothers me about Bulldog is (and I might be mistaken here) that they are now a part of Cable & Wireless. And I heard last week that C&W are to be concentrating on their commercial customers in the future, so does that mean little commitment to Bulldog or selling it off?

    Hi All

I can completely understand your anger and frustration with e7 at this particular time. We have removed several posts directed at certain members who had promoted e7 and recommended them. Whilst we completely understand your wording, it is important to remember that these members are NOT employed by e7, nor are they accountable for the present problems. The problems are an issue e7 needs to address.

We understand that they were often staunch advocates of the service e7 provided, but it is important to remember that the present issues are nothing directly to do with them, and many people have received excellent service and an excellent product from e7 for many years. Indeed, i suspect that these members themselves are suffering the same downtime and annoyance that you are

EL. I think your post is probably directed at me and as I pointed out to Mike, I'm not trying to make him out as the bad guy, which I'll state now that I don't think he is. Just suggesting he doesn't make the same mistake again and trying to point out the possible pitfalls in his possible choice of his next ISP and explaining the LLU where he doesn't seem to understand it fully. That, I thought might save him similar problems in the future.
If you think differently and that my post needs editing, then please PM me.
