salthegal wrote:my partner is having big problems, cant seem to sign into msn messenger, get into his hotmail account or send any email attacments from gmail at all for the past 2 days!? Any ideas as to whats going on? (he hasnt changed any settings at all) and why this is as it seems we can view other websites normally. We suspect somethings up with e7even, i.e. their firewalls or something.
Just spotted this post on adslguide:
It might be worth pointing out if you are on @e7even.com and about to be migrated to @e7broadband.com then be prepared for problems with some websites and sending mail
The solution suggested by MrSaffron here is to reduce the MTU to 1430
This appears to work, so if being migrated, be prepared to tweak !
This link might help (if you can get there) http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/tweak2.htm
To tweak MTU manually:
Change the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) Size (Windows NT/2000/XP)
This parameter specifies the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) for a network interface. By optimizing the MTU setting you can gain substantial network performance increases, especially when using dial-up modem connections.
MTU stands for Maximum Transmission Unit and in basic terms, it defines the maximum size of a packet that can be transferred in one frame over a network.
Open your registry and find the key below.
Registry SettingsSystem Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
Interfaces\[Adapter ID]]
Value Name: MTU
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: Default = 0xffffffff
Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called "MTU" and set it to equal the required MTU size in decimal.
Recommended Values 576 - Dial-up Connections
1492 - PPPoE Broadband Connections
<LI>1500 - Ethernet, DSL and Cable Broadband Connections Restart Windows for the change to take effect.

So all we have to do is reprogram Windows then! E7even just keeps on giving! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
For those of us without Windows and, therefore, used to having a stable operating system, we might not want to tinker at registry level!
So, in answer to the question 'just how bad can it get'...

The information did not come from e7.
Windows has so many options that can be configured and this information was provided to try to help somebody with a particular problem. The settings can also be changed by lots of other programs so you do not have to reprogram windows or tinker at the registry. To infinity and beyond!0 -

Started to migrate to E7 on Jan 4th. Text recieved on 27th confirming broadband migration complete-email with login detail sent. Did not say login had been changed in the interim from e7even to e7broadband. Could not recieve email as could not get connected due to change of login. Waste of time phoning however managed to get site ate work and discover new login tucked away on website. Tonight got connected and running at a fraction below 2meg. So far much better than my old BT and all their nasty letters about fair usage even though I originally signed up for unlimited broadband and then they moved the goal posts. I know this is early days but I am prepared to give them a go. They came highly recommended by some work chums. Lets give them a chance to get their house in order and see how they perform!0

mulhuis, give that i've been with them for months now and they have never given me the speed i've paid for and that's without considering that i like loads of other people have been without connections for weeks on end, i hope that you won't mind too much if we moan about them. they've done naff all so far in my eyes and it will take a bl**dy miracle for me to say anything positive about them. i'm very happy for you but for those of us who have been through hell and back with these people they've more than had their chance. and before you ask, the reason is that being given a mac code and a refund doesn't come close to compensating me.
