Courts Closing Down Sale...be quick

  • Hi All,
I was at the Stoke on Trent branch this morning at 1000am. The place was locked up, lights on skeleton staff who were told they hadn't got a job on Monday and the recievers were in attendance. There was a handful of very upset customers banging on doors. The ex manager fronted up and came out to face people. He explained that people who had fully paid for goods in cash and if the goods were in the store they could collect today or they would be delivered in the next two days. They were waiting for confirmation from the recievers that they had been granted a licence to trade before starting this process. No mention of people in other circumstances and a stock clearance sale.

  • Apologies, I forgot to mention in my last post that I agree with previous comments about taking deposits on high priced items, buy now pay later deals and implications for a company's cashflow. I fully expect Courts to return in some form or other or to be bought out. Hopefully after a "stock clearance" sale to get some cash through their books.
None of the Courts "ex" staff new anything of plans for a sale. Has anybody got an update on the sale? I need a new bed and dining table!

I think MFI will be next as i had to wait 7 weeks just for some drawers and after reading all the bad press they have been getting it wouldn't surprise me

That is just MFI - colleague bought a sofa from them and is still waiting for the cushions (nearly 8 months later)
    Cheers

Bad news for anyone who thinks they won't have to pay for goods they purchased from Courts on Credit, which are already in their posession - your Credit Agreement wasn't with Courts in the first place, so the chances of you not having to pay are somewhat less than nil.
Is the credit agreement with Courts or someone seperate like Courts loans Ltd?

  • We bought two sofas from them in march of this year, they were delivered 11 weeks later, and were damaged by their men bringing them into our home and also did 480 pounds worth of damage to our home, which still has not been put right, and after that when the men left i noticed that they were the wrong bleedin sofa's. Wedid eventually get our right sofas at the end of august (hooray), but i suppose we will have to kiss goodbye to the work to our house, I am not sorry to see they have folded, good riddens!!!

Bought new house 18 months ago (first home...ahhh). Though about courts, but used someone else (forgot who)....found nicer & cheaper stuff elsewhere.

The sofas were delivered only a week after we'd ordered them. Which was good, as we didn't fancy sitting on the floor.

The legal libility of Courts for damage caused delivering furniture does not stop with their insolvency, if they had legal liabilities insurance, which they undoubtedly would have.

Try contacting KPMG (details have replaced Courts website) on this.
