BBC News website has a list of comments from people who have either paid in full (by cheque or standard debit card) or paid a deposit and have probably lost their money. Some have received parts of the order, but with items that are damaged. Others have had confirmed delivery dates cancelled (eg, for 3rd December).

The moral of this tale is to be careful when you are making large purchases, no matter how stable you think the company is.

It also says that they are hoping to re-open stores on Thursday / Friday. They have been doing stock take and so had to close all of the stores down for a full evaluation of the 'assets'.

  • wrong, theres one in Kinaird Park (Fort Kinnaird) , Edinburgh 8)

Got your plate ready for some humble pie mclaren? There are NO Courts retail outlets in Scotland. There is, however, a separate Courts Contracts business, which is a separate part of the business.

I am, however, intrigued to discover where you think Courts is in Kinnaird Park.....

  • Hi all

Just a warning for someone considering making a purchase from Courts. MAKE sure you do pay by credit card if you are not going to get the goods to take away with you right away.

This is someone with experience of being had by a company going bust. Couple of years ago the furniture company World of Leather went bust. We paid around £2000 by debit card. Anyway long story short they basically changed our delivery time many times and then went bust. All we got was letters every several months from the administrators, basically saying crap all and that we are unlikely to get our money back.

So unless you want to spend the next 10 years living off the MoneySavingExpert website trying to make up for it......take caution!

Anyone purchasing from Courts after they went into Administration will be purchasing from the Official Receiver, NOT Courts.

All purchases will be from stock only and therefore your purchase will not be at risk.

Always a good idea to purchase via your credit card however (as long as you have the money to pay straight back onto it!!), in case you have any future problems with your goods.

Bad news for anyone who thinks they won't have to pay for goods they purchased from Courts on Credit, which are already in their posession - your Credit Agreement wasn't with Courts in the first place, so the chances of you not having to pay are somewhat less than nil.

Slips = orders = customers annoyed and worried that they won't get their stuff.

I think the first day that the stores re-open is going to be bad. A lot of people hastling the staff for sofas that they're probably never going to receive. I'm glad I don't work for Courts. It'll be enough to make them want to phone in sick.

Its so unfair. i think customers who have been let down should have the opertunity to at least select other items from the store instead of what they ordered, to the same value of what they have lost.
    All before the store re-opens.

    Its basically Theft! >:(

Extract from KPMG notice on Courts website:

    1 Delivery of goods

Unfortunately Courts are not in a position to fulfil any outstanding orders. The vast majority of goods ordered by customers have not yet been received from manufacturers and given the administration of Courts the goods will not be received from the manufacturers.

2 If you have paid for goods in full and have not received any goods

2.1 If you have paid by credit card
You should contact your credit card provider. Subject to the rules of your card issuer, you should be able to claim a refund direct from them.

2.2 If you have paid in cash or by cheque
Unfortunately you are an unsecured creditor in the administration. This means that you will not receive any goods and you will not receive a refund as Courts is insolvent and has no money to pay its creditors. The administrators will be sending a report to all creditors within 8 weeks of their appointment setting out their proposals and the prospects of any money being available for the unsecured creditors. For the avoidance of doubt you will also not be able to claim goods from your local store in lieu of the deposit that you have paid.
