    CUSTOMERS 'WIIL LOSE'

The administrators of furniture chain Courts warn that customers who have paid a cash deposit are likely to lose their money.
Accountants KPMG, who are responsible for salvaging what they can, say shoppers rank behind the banks and suppliers which are owed more than £280m.
No more deliveries of sofas will be sent out, unless a customer has paid in full and the goods are in the Courts
    warehouse.
Courts stores are closed but will reopen on Thursday or Friday to sell the old stock at a discount.
KPMG has had more than 25 approaches from potential buyers.
    Customer and shareholder helpline: 0870 950 1333.

I've got some curtains on order from the curtains bit in the local Courts. Woman phoned today to explain there shouldnt be a problem, as it's a seperate concession, though they can't have them delivered to the store at the moment due to the closure.

She said they've even had the police in the store today, so maybe all the disgruntled customers have already shown up!!

Is the credit agreement with Courts or someone seperate like Courts loans Ltd?

no, agreement (if I remember correctly, really should check!) is with an outside finance company, can't recall name, it used to be HFS bank but it had changed when I bought last items. never really expected to get out of it just thought if there was some loophole etc that I could exploit then worth a shot ;) ::)

  • i suspect that the finance scheme would have been administered by a seperate finance company...i would surprised if you got away without paying them

A pertinent link keithscott1.  Let's remember that there are unsecured creditors who might like some stock left within the stores before we all march in and buy for the sake of it.

To put it this way, Imagine if any one of the 'bundle three' still had your cash (not you keithscott1!!), hadn't delivered the order and then tommorrow sold off all of their stock of gamecubes and pokemon games to others -  Would you be a bit miffed?

I think this should be 'Quick! grab it while you can' for those who have paid for something already?

Unless you were planning to buy from Courts before this post, think again whether you should now.
  • The unsecured creditors haven't a hope in hell, regardless of whether we go in and buy what's left or not... ;)
Thanks to all who post constructively.

The wife and I were discussing this point last night. As people who have lost out to Courts, we are awaiting a Dining Table, we wondered how difficult it would be for them to arrange something.

Surely each branch has a list of people with outstanding orders and contact details? How difficult would it be to contact these people and give them an exclusive hour before opening to the public?

I think that would be a decent gesture amidst the whole mess. Of course many people that havent lost anything may disagree and be thinking about lost bargains, I suppose thats just the way of the world
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.
