If you want to peel a swede etc - it is easier to cut it into slices widthways - like circles and then peel.
I got this tip fron a veg seller on the market and it works.
Yep! That's exactly the way I do mine too.
You need to use a large knife with a good handle that you can really get a grip on and it must be SHARP. The reason why people always advise sharp knives is that they cut throught things with less effort and so are more easily controlled. A slightly blunt knife always takes a LOT more effort to use and is therefore less easy to control, and you know for sure that it'll still be sharp enough to cut the end of your finger off if things go wrong.

Hi Yall, Bright and sunny here today (Yay) walking back from school I could see the church spire in the next village six miles away and I havn't been able to do that for yonks. Cold wind across the fields tho.
Most of the cleaning is done and I have two airers resting in a sunny spot in the garden.
Off to pick up my two new pairs of glasses in a bit as I only have an emergency pair which are not up to all day wear. Friends are having a field day with jokes about poor eyesight and old age - they havn't twigged I've been wearing contact lenses for the last 20 years. I don't say anything I just go
Quite pleased that by being really mean on the Jan grocery challange I can afford to buy me specs out of the general fund and won't need to dip into 2006 contact lens budget which is now surplus. (Yay) With this in mind I may pop into primark when in town - If i don't post again today you'll know I'm having a wild spending spree:D

Morning All
Hugs to everyone who needs then & hippo birdy to AT.
Thought I was doing so well yesterday, got my freezer sorted & a meal plan for the next fortnight done & my shopping list written,...... went to go to the shops & the car died:p New starter motor at £150+ required:mad: A bit of a false investment as we are getting a new car in April (buying my dads off him at a bargin price) but no way we can manage without one until then. It got hit again last week by yet another dirver who failed to stop, 2nd time in a year:mad: It won't be worth a thing by the time we come to sell it:rolleyes:
But as if that wasn't bad enough. last thing last night I managed to BURN the duvet:eek: You know those wheat bags you heat up in the microwave? well, I mst have over heated it 'cos I put it down on the bed whilst I cleaned my teeth, when I picked it up I had a nice tarten burn on my lemon duvet cover!!!!!!!:o:eek::rotfl:Hubby thinks it's terribly funny, last week I managed to literally burn water when I forgot I had veggies steaming, and burnt a hole in the bottom of my favourite saucepan, this week I managed to overcook a hot waterbottle & burn the bed:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Don't think I'd better plan to do to much today, everythings going wrong & it's been a expensive year so far already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -

Hi everyone,
Nice quiet day today, not working and just a bit of cleaning to do. Gonna have another go at trying to catch the gerbil (escaped early hours of yesterday morning, and the begger refuses to be caught )
OH is at the hospital having a biopsy of a lump on his neck, wish I could have gone with him but with a small impatiant baby it was impossible.
gonna nip in to town later and try to find a nicebed linen set and some new curtains, moved house before xmas and we still have previous occupents choice up and they are very drab.
Feeling quite tired today, must try and get into bed before midnight tonight, just had alot on my mind recently. My friend had a miscarrage yesterday and wasn't bothered as she was "getting rid anyway" found this really upsetting as I have had 2 misscarrages and found them very traumatic. Her blasé approach really irritated me.
Got to wash the pots, took the sofa covers off earlier to wash, done one half of it and doing the rest in a min, used a bit of powder and 2 tablespoons of soda crystals coz they were really manky, only did them about 2 months ago as well. Need to go buy my laminate flooring soon as well, with having a baby munching on toast or rusks the carpet is getting quiet dismal. Can't wait to get upstairs doen but we are having a new kitchen and bathroom fitted as well as new central heating and radiators so we can't do anything yet, feel like a right tramp having the horrid carpets and even worse decor but just can't do it till its all done.

Happy Birthday A-T!
It's a beautiful day outside, bright blue skies .... so I've hung my washing outside and it is actually blowing in a slight breeze .... it is still very cold though so no idea if it will actually dry out there, but hey, it's worth a shot!
My mother 'phoned me this morning sounding on top of the world! She is fairly hopeless with money to be frank and is a constant worry to me, so I had to sit her down last week and give her a gentle talking to (I thought it was the parents who were meant to do this to their children) ...as a consequence she has sat down this morning and sorted a few financial things out which have been weighing heavily on her mind and contributing to her stress levels (and more importantly blood pressure levels
). "Hip hip hurrah for my ma!", it really made my morning to hear her so chipper!

I'm in the same boat with horrid carpets/curtains from the previous occupant -we said we'd get rid as soon as possible, and are still the same nearly 2 years later.
However, i refuse to buy anyhting unless it is as i want the room in the end. other things keep taking priority (mortgage overpayment/wedding/new windows)
We'll get there in the end, and won't it be worth it!!0 -

Iwanttosave, your life sounds much the same as mine, I've got friends like that who just dont understand the heartache of wanting a baby and take for granted that when they want to be pregnant it will happen and 9 months later they will give birth to a healthy babe.OK rant over
Been swimming with DD this morning and then quick trip to Morrisons (left the car there so I didnt have to pay in swimming baths car park). Bought the local paper and 3 bottles of Morrison diet cola for 99p, :T OH likes a whiskey and coke on a Fri and Sat night. DD is having her MMR later  and then I've got to clean the house.
