  • stefejb - I am so sorry for your daughter. I was in the position of a miscarriage where I bled for eleven days, and those days were awful when you were reminded of your loss so many times and yet you keep hoping. Then you see babies everywhere and they even had a baby channel on sky. It is so hard to mourn and so hard to be brave, is there any grief counselling she could have? I do hope she feels better soon, wishing her all the best.

  • Hi again,

((((hugs)))) stefejb, and sybil. Sybil, I know hugs aren't actually what you need to sort out the depression, but I'm guessing they can't hurt.

I am sooooo proud of myself. I went to a local council planning meeting this evening. You may remember me saying back in Sept that Tesco want to put an Express store at the bottom of my block of flats. I don't object to it on principle (normally I would, but if you knew my area you'd know how badly it needs "investment") but my windows are very very close to where the refrigeration/air con outlets would be. The rest of the planning permission has been passed but this bit had got stuck. ANYWAY I was terrified about going as I didn't know if any of the neighbours were going, and I am extremely phobic about speaking in public.

Anyway I am really glad I went! Two of my neighbours were there - one from the other side of my block, plus the owner of our corner shop. But I ended up doing a lot of the talking because I was the person there who was likely to suffer the most direct impact from a bad planning decision, so the councillors were asking for my views in particular. I was shaking like a leaf but did not waffle or make a fool of myself :o

The community council recommended passing the application, but with VERY stringent noise and heat conditions, to the extent that one of my neighbours reckons Tesco might just decide the whole development isn't worth the effort and expense...

On the way back, I discovered my local Indian takeaway. It's been there nearly 9 months but that just goes to prove how infrequently I buy takeaway :D Anyway, I'd spotted some people recently on a local forum saying it was the best foodie place in the whole neighbourhood. I had a prawn biryani and OMG it was GORGEOUS.

What was that I was saying about doing some cooking this evening :o No chance. I'll do some rice for the chilli and that sorts tomorrow's lunch out anyway :D

    Rzl xx

It does seem odd that an adult cancer service would take on the care of a young child, the childrens hospital at Guys is separate from the main hospital? and I didn't think it offered any cancer services there, so does that mean this little girl was in the adult ward with no specialised RSCN's or paediatric cancer specialists?

It does seem odd Glad, but I wasn't at Guys hospital and I don't know where you got that information from:confused:

I wish to god that I hadn't posted about it all now.

Oh my goodness, I think I'm to blame for all the misunderstandings:o :o:o

PP, I was sure you were under the care of one of the big London Hospitals, and I did say Guy's? in one of my posts. Sorry, I thought it was clear I was saying were you in Guy's? Don't know why that came to mind, you could as easily have been in King's or Tommy's:confused: I apologise for the confusion I have inadvertently caused:o

I think I was just so distressed at the very idea of a 5 year old, with a rare cancer, maybe not going to make it until Christmas, not receiving world-class care at GOSH, that I have let my emotions run away with me. ( Those that know me will also realise that the name Ellie is one huge trigger too) I meant no disrespect to her parents, they must allow her to be treated wherever they wish, I just couldn't imagine not pushing for GOSH. I was incensed because I thought GOSH would not treat her, when I could not think of a more deserving case. I apologise to all concerned if my post has caused problems. I'll remember to put my brain in gear before posting again.

Probably won't get on early tomorrow ( yes OK, I don't do early any day:p ) One of my DGSs is 2 tomorrow. He has far too many gifts, but will be suffocated under Nanny's hugs tomorrow. I realise how very blessed I am.

stefejb, so sorry to hear of DD. I pray she manages to keep the baby, but if it's not to be I pray the end comes quickly. (((hugs)) to you all at a horrible time.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  • I can't believe that I am still up at this ungodly hour. I have tried and failed to sleep but my sister is unwell and it is praying on my mind a little.Thought I might just pop my head in here although I have been very lax about posting for a while. :o

I should be very tired as I had a busy day helping out at church. We are having a pre Christmas craft sale on Saturday so we were getting things ready all day. Let's hope it raises some much needed cash. I also succeeded in topping up the baking tins when I got hope with some twinks and shortbread. Tea was reduced to clear organic chicken breasts simply grilled with oven chips and salad.

My plans for tommorrow are to catch up on a little housework and visit my poorly sister.

Have managed to read the entire thread today and there seems to be a little upset. I am so sorry that I missed your news PennyPincher. I thought you were going to hospital for a hysterectomy. I had no idea you were being treated on a cancer ward. You poor thing. Judging from the hooha which has ensued on the subject of the little girl I should not say much, other than that I too am surprised that a child with so little time left is being treated to such distressing treatment on a mixed ward. One would wish that she could be at home with her family at this time. However I am sure that I don't know the ins and outs and am not medically trained so I will simply remember her in my prayers tonight.
I am sorry to hear your daughter's news Stefejb. My thoughts are with your family.
Happy birthday to your DH Kat Lady.

Sorry if I have forgotten anyone. My brain is tired even though I can't sleep.

    Hi PP
lovely to see you back and pleased everything went well :)

I did notice that you say you mentioned OS and this site to the little girls mother but did you ask if she minded you posting her daughter's name and details of her illness here? There may be people they haven't discussed it with who read it here and put 2 and 2 together.

in reply to your second post Glad while i said i appreciate you had a point, in view of Penny-Pincher being ill i thought you could have worded the above more tactfully and sympathetically and that is my last word on the subject

    Hi all :)

sorry if anyone thinks my posts sounded at all unsympathetic or harsh, that wasn't meant at all and if it was taken that way I really must take stock of my written approach.
Yes I did see the mention of Guys and assumed that was where PP was being treated, my mistake. My views on the treatment of a child there were entirely the musings of a practitioner wondering about the background to this case :)
Again as part of my role confidentiality is a big issue and I realise it's not something a lay person considers on a day to day basis, but I would like to think this little girls mum was aware of her name being on this site,
PP there was no reason not to mention it, you made a sick little girl smile :) and that's a wonderful thing to do when you are so ill yourself,
I was just concerned about her name being used
