  • Morning all!

Treacle took a while to get back to herself yesterday but she seems Ok again today. just hope she doesn't have another one for a long time. She looks so scared when she is having one and I don't know if that is just the 'fit' making her face grimace or if she can feel what is happening and is really scared. I am sorry, I know there are people out there really ill (including my friend in America and Tapladys dear friend) but Treacle is part of my life too and I don't want her suffering.

Sybil - my knees seem almost better now, the left one still clicks and makes me stop walking occasionally, but much better, thank you for asking. And I always think how brave you are facing your fears every day and miss you when you don't post.
Welcome back Pen-pin and thinking of little ellie just made me cry. I hope you feel much better soon. getwell.gifxx
lalaladybird - have you considered a sharp slap?? :rotfl: :rotfl: No, seriously, maybe a quiet word to him about how he makes you feel, and yes, I think a big list of all you have done is a good idea - IF you tihnk he will read it!! I think you are doing a great job so well done you!
Stefejb hugs to you and yours and hope she is okay soon

Smokey - how are you hon? We miss you.

I made sausage meat patties for dinner last night and they were as delicious as ever. Served them with mash and left over cabbage and broccolli from Sunday. Made 10 of them so enough for dinner tonight which is great. We had chocolate hobnobs (home made) for dessert.

    Hope everyone is doing Ok.

smileyhug.gifto those who need them and congrats to anyone celebrating today.

    Afternoon all.

PenPin, welcome back; I hope you are not too knocked out.

Stefejb, I hope life starts to treat your DD a bit better.

Betheebee, fingers x’d for your DB2.

Not a lot happening here today; tonights dins (quiche) is already made, and I've done a couple of online surveys.

I have a humungous document from HBOS re the Lloyds TSB thing; will get Mr LW to look at it with me tonight. It's not so much that I don't understand any of it (although I'd be lying if I said it was easy to understand), but it's quite daunting, as it's the size of "War & Peace".

Neighbour is driving me nuts with his noise yet again; he's turning a perfectly good retirement bungalow into a family house. I am so tempted to shove his tools somewhere the sun don't shine - sideways - as he makes so much racket that at times it literally rattles the pictures on my walls.

I did ask yesterday, but will ask again, who recently posted the recipe for tomato chutney? I picked up 2kg of y/s red & yellow cherry toms in Mr T's yesterday to make chutney for Chrimbo pressies, and now can't find the recipe!

This isn't the one that was posted, but it might help...

900g (2lbs) Tomatoes skinned and chopped
450g (1lb) Cooking apples, peeled, cored and chopped
450g (1lb) Onions peeled and chopped
    225g (8oz) Sultanas
    225g (8oz) Sugar
    5ml (1 teasp) Mustard powder
    10ml (2 teasp) Ground coriander
    5ml (1 teasp) Ground ginger
    Salt and pepper
    280ml (1/2 pt) Vinegar
    Small tin tomato puree
    2 small chillis
    pinch of cayenne pepper
(You can skip the final two ingredients if you don't like spicy chutney.)
    • Mix the tomatoes, apples, onions and sultanas in a large pan. Stir in all the other ingredients, add a good sprinkling of salt and pepper.
    • Bring slowly to the boil, cover the pan and reduce the heat, simmer gently for 1-2 hours or until thick. this isn't an exact science unfortunately...
    • Stir during cooking.
    • This is ready when you pull a spoon across the pan and the line stays clear.
    • place into steralized pots and cover.
    Hope this helps honey

  • Lalaladybird - I do love your username. It is obviously upsetting you, having your dear heart be so silly. I suggest you tell him that he is upsetting you and that positive reinforcement (wow, well done) works better than negative reinforcement. On a serious note, a child growing up note hearing praise can be badly affected which I know from personal experience. However, this irritating habit of your dear heart must be hard to deal with, so I suggest that after you have explained that he is upsetting you (because he must know how hard you are trying) is to say that every time he complains you are going to fine him. So next time he asks where the money is going you will say, 'That's a fine, I'm going to get a magazine.' and each time he mentions it, 'That's a fine, I'm going to get a magazine/makeup/bubble bath/chocolate/book/item for hobby'. You are working so hard towards your goal, perhaps you can save up coupons etc for treats to bring out at a psychological moment.

I love your suggestion. I will definitely do that and let you know how it goes :D
  • Glad the suggestion is helpful. :D

Lamewolf - it is so frustrating when neighbours forget that sound travels. Little bear has not had a nap yet today and I fear for my sanity if he does not get one soon and it sounds like they are knocking walls down at the back of us.

MSD - it is so hard when furry friends are poorly, because they can't tell you if they are hurting or not and cats are notorious for hiding when they are suffering. However, cats do live in the 'now' so while you (and I) may be upset about how Treacle was an hour ago, Treacle has completely forgotten about what it felt like and is currently enjoying the warmth from a radiator. Evil cat is still more merely malevolent - I put in my blog about her exploits last night. She was awful, but I know that she isn't well, and even though she really makes me suffer sometimes, I don't like the thought of her hurting. Of course, she will play on this.

Managed to get to the doctors. At the moment v low. I can manage a little bit of 'thinking' but the instructions on the tablets are something that should be referred to Steven Hawkins or Mr Spock or someone else scientific - I shall have to rely on dear heart which always upsets me.

The people at the back have stopped demolishing a wall and are now shouting at each other. I am keeping my fingers crossed that little bear's first word (apart from Momma - he is slow speaking) is not taken from their vocabulary. I imagine him looking up at a vicar, with an angelic expression and saying something that I'm not allowed to put in this forum.

    Hi all :hello:

Lovely to see you out of hospital and on the mend PP :j - thinking of little Ellie. Sounds like she had a nice time with you, anyway.
    taplady ((hugs))
    smokybabe - you around/OK?
stefejb - hugs to you and DD, hope she gets good news.
beth - glad your bro has had his op - hope he makes a full recovery soon.

I MUST do some cooking tonight. I have just stunk the office out by microwaving HM fish pie for my lunch - I don't normally bring fish pie to work for that reason, but it was the ONLY prepared meal I found when I looked in the freezer last night :o How did I not notice I didn't have any meals left? Actually, I do have some chilli con carne, but need to do some rice to go with that. So tonight am having chilli and rice and am cooking up a batch of macaroni cheese for the freezer. Will do some more stuff with mince at the weekend - I bought 5 x 500g packs of organic mince the other day at Tesco, YS to £1.55 each. So am thinking I will do lasagne. Would you believe I have never made lasagne? :o  I'm probably going to do the recipe out of Jamie's Ministry of Food - I've only had that cookbook for a couple of weeks and already it's getting more use than any other cookbook I own! :T

I notice that Aldi's Super Six includes butternut squash this month, so might go and pick up a couple of those at the weekend and make soup. That's something else I haven't got any portions of in the freezer :o

Also need to write a review tonight - been putting it off a bit. I had hoped to do it yesterday but due to an absolute traffic nightmare I got home from my singing lesson much later than I had anticipated.

Anyway, must go, lunchtime is over :)

    Love Rzl xx

  • Oh dear! That will teach me to find out all the facts before I let rip, I'll have to apologise:o :o I don't understand the parents though, refusing GOSH for, where were you, Guys? I'd have much preferred the expertise available at GOSH if it was my child. I'm surprised the Doctor's weren't more insistent, it's not that far away from the other London hospitals, but I can understand her parents may not be thinking straight. You really feel for them, it must just devastate you to cope with that sick a child.

I don't know if they refused Great Ormond Street and I wouldn't like to speculate or assume that was the case, they must have had their reasons. I don't have the full facts, so it wouldn't be fair of me to comment. I'm going to text Ellie's mum later and see how she is today and will send the love of the OS community as I told her all about the website when we spoke the other day.

Had a snooze earlier and feel a little better.

OH has made some garlic bread to have with the spagbol and he also did the online shop using a 15% off voucher code for Ocado and managed to get some great bargains for £50 including delivery. He has also decided to go to Aldi (thanks BargainRzl;) ) to get some of the butternut squash and peppers to make soup. He is really looking after me and appreciate all that he is doing for me.

    Take care everyone.
