I've got an Athens account but can't see how to access Apple from there - I get to things like Student Options Software Store, but no Apple or Mac stuff
Where about is it llisted - or is it that my particular college doesn't subscribe?

That sounds worth getting. I'll get in touch with my tutor about it, thankselisebutt65 wrote:I've got an Athens account but can't see how to access Apple from there - I get to things like Student Options Software Store, but no Apple or Mac stuff

The Athens thing that's been discussed in previous posts is a theoretical way to limit access to the store. So only students with the relevant Athens details could use the Apple Store for Education.
If you mean you're at Uni and want to give the Higher Education site a try you go to the Apple Store, click through to education and choose the top link (instead of the bottom one that you will have used if you ordered the camera online originally).
Re Multiple orders: I got my mum (a Lecturer) to order a camera for me while she was ordering hers as I didn't have that sort of money in my DebitCard account. I didn't think twice about doing that at the time. Oops0 -
Two have just been removed from ebay by one seller - didn't think they were going to get them cheap from apple??
serve's them right - students only - part time maybe, but still in HE
Assume that they won't need NUS card, Uni id should do instead i hope - haven't enroled in NUS.

Some Universities don't enrol with the NUS - so I think there will be other ways in which you can prove your student status. The most obvious of which - that I was once told might be asked for - is a simple headed letter from your department secretary.Truly great madness can not be achieved without significant intelligence0

If the terms and conditions say "work in education" then anyone who is employed by the university, a local education authority or a school is eligible. Usually with these things, you have to provide a NUS number or proof of employment from an educational employer - it is the same with buying MS Student and Teacher discounted stuff from sellers etc...
It is quite far ranging though - for example, even graduates employed by big accountancy firms have NUS cards and student status even though they are full time employed because they are registered with the ICAEW to take their accountancy qualifications. Plus, a professor on £60k a year is eligible whereas a shop assistant on £10k isn't. From what I've seen "knowing" a student or someone in education isn't enough - YOU have to be in education - i.e. the account holder/buyer, not necessarily the card holder. Although, if you call and customer services confirm that this is ok to buy for a son/daughter etc..., then you have a leg to stand on if they query it later on - I would hazard a guess that this was a lax customer services assistant who was in a good mood rather than a company policy. Otherwise why have an educational site at all as most people could muster up a student if challenged.
Anyways, pure conjecture on my part. I missed the offer personally but really hope that the cameras do arrive for those that ordered them!0 -

as for the person that stated that the dinner lady didnt qualify ..im afraid i disagree totally ....not all 'valuable' teaching that goes on in schools nowadays is purely down to teaching staff.... support staff play an equally valuable part.....
how many primary schools rely on the good old jannie to take the boys football team etc etc etc ....
as i already stated , i think apple will have a very hard task if they take the route of trying to disqualify people for not meeting the criteria since at the end of the day im sure most people not working in the eductaion sector or not presently engaged in studies will know someone that is.
given that fact its problably a straight case for apple of either they honour all or no orders , the exception being those who made multiple orders.
cheers
It makes little difference whether you agree or disagree with my statement as it is Apple who will set the qualification criteria.
...my further comment included within in that post (as to which role has more long term value I am unsure) indicates that I too realise the value of support staff. It was not a put down of support staff but a realistic view of how supervisors are identified in HE.....and one assumes also by Apple.0 -
How about using your UCAS number? That should corrospond with a billing\delivery address name used to order.0

Hmm true, but it should match up with your name at least I guess.0 -
Apple wouldn't possibly contact all orders to check that it is a valid education order.
Say 5,000 orders were placed and it takes 5 mins per phone call to check. Thats assuming your in or have the details to hand. It would work out to over 2,000 man hours (50+ weeks). I can't see them spending this much time and resource on an item that will cost them financially if they shipped.
We shall all just have to wait and see what happens. But my monies on all orders being cancelled due to a miss-price.0
