I reckon that I am losing around £16 a day whilst it is in limbo and I can't open any new fixed accounts until I get the cash, by the time it arrives all the best rates will have gone, the 1.5% interest cut has come at the wrong time for many of us, it's a double whammy!

I have a theory that the BoE rate cut was timed perfectly to co-incide with the repayment of the Icelandic money and a sudden influx of several million pounds into UK banking institutions.

Does anyone know what the interest rates on the easy access and fixed rate accounts were? The info's been taken off the site.

Previous rates on balances of £250 or more (gross rates - trust you can do the 20 per cent tax yourself) were

    10/10/06 to 14/11/06 5.20 (annual interest) 5.08 (monthly)
    15/11/06 to 18/01/07 5.45 5.32
    19/01/07 to 17/05/07 5.70 5.56
    18/05/07 to 12/07/07 5.95 5.79
    13/07/07 to 30/09/07 6.20 6.03
    01/10/07 to 14/02/08 6.30 6.13
    15/12/08 to 24/06/08 6.05 5.89
    15/06/08 to 07/10/08 6.30 6.13
    08/10/08 onwards - didly squat

Hope this is clear but the website ate my formatting

Rate on the cash ISA was always 6.1 per cent for annual and 5.94 per cent for monthly interest.

It's a straightforward spreadsheet calculation to check your interest - just apply the interest rate to your balance on each day and it more or less works

I've never been much of a conspiracy theorist but hey, I'm willing to give it a go in this case!

I agree, and I also think that most of it will stay in UK institution for a while to come.

Blimey from the FSCS new message -:
The second emails will be sent in batches over the rest of this month
That means some of us may have to endure another 20 days of this!
  • It's like waiting for Santa ....

You feel you should be grateful. It's really costing you a fortune. You don't know what to do with, or where to put, what you receive. You just want it all to be over. It's all down to some plonker from somewhere near the North Pole. It'll probably all happen again next year.

    Merry Compensation to you all.

IMHO that is a pretty accurate summing up of the situation, as you say we are grateful but are annoyed that we have to endure all this waiting and losing interest, it almost feels as though we are getting a prize yet really we are just getting back what is owed to us, most of us have never experienced this sort of thing before and have been placed in this position through no fault of our own.

We hear of others getting their money back and we sit watching for an email in vain and it feels that it will never come.
  • I see that e mails will be sent out during the rest of this month ie we could be waiting for another 18 days.

Frustratingly there is nothing I can do so I am going to stop watching paint dry and I am going to get myself out. I am also going to stop feeling grateful because the fscs was set up by the banking system just like abtol or abta for the travel industry and it is only doing its job.

I would like to know where the interest is going?
