  • Just phoned B. Gas and was told the offer has been extended by a couple of weeks. (I assume that means until 13th Jan '06) However, as I didn't ask the guy what the exact cutoff date is, might be best to contact them ASAP. He said it's quiet today (Jan 2nd), so if anybody out there reads this today do it now! as my call was answered almost immediately.

Just did it myself. Phoned the main number and pressed option 1.

The call lasted 90 seconds and he said a letter confirming the rebate will be posted.

    Passed the word to family.

Someone below has reported British Gas is extending the deadline due to high demand so it's worth trying this next week :)

URGENT! If you receive means-tested benefits you can claim a 60 quid rebate from British (or Scottish) Gas, though you must claim before 31 DEC 2005.

They are giving out rebates of £60 on winter bills - it is paid in two installments in November and February. The rebate is worth £40 for gas customers, £20 for electricity, i.e. £60 for customers getting both.

Check to see if you’ve received a form with your gas bill or call 0845 602 2008 and press 1 for Winter Fuel Rebate. All you need is your account details and they’ll arrange it for you.

It's for British (or Scottish) Gas customers only and you have to be on one of the following benefits:

    Vulnerable Customer - Eligible Benefits
    • Disability living allowance
    • Pension Credit
    • Attendance allowance
    • War disablement pension which includes either a mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance
    • Disablement pension which includes constant attendance allowance
    • Child tax credit where the relevant income is £14,600 or less
    • Working tax credit where the relevant income is £14,600 or less
    • Council tax benefit
    • Housing benefit
    • Income-based job seekers allowance
    • Income support
    • Carers Allowance
    • Severe Disability allowance

Got through no problem this morning.
As my mother pays on direct debit, they said she would get her rebate credited to her bills. The first one in January and another between January and April.

They claim this was advertised widely in the press and on radio.
Not that i saw/heard, so thanks again to user that posted this.

  • Thanks for this one - Scottish gas provide our electricity, which we pay by Direct Debit. I rang them 5 minutes ago and have been assured that my bank account will be credited by £20, in the form of two £10's.

    Can't complain!
