I also registered my 89 year old Mother today for the £40 rebate. You must call 0845 602 2008 though. I referred to the fact that I had not been able to get through for two days and had left voice messages and no call back. I was told the rebate offer had been extended for a few days, so DON'T GIVE UP. Keep calling next week!!!
Good luck0 -
Thanks for tip on Rebate for those on Pension Credit. Just claimed back £40 from British Gas with one little phone call. Absolutely brilliant. You are a star.MSE_Jenny wrote:
URGENT! If you receive means-tested benefits you can claim a 60 quid rebate from British (or Scottish) Gas, though you must claim before 31 DEC 2005.
They are giving out rebates of £60 on winter bills - it is paid in two installments in November and February. The rebate is worth £40 for gas customers, £20 for electricity, i.e. £60 for customers getting both.
Check to see if you’ve received a form with your gas bill or call 0845 602 2008 and press 1 for Winter Fuel Rebate. All you need is your account details and they’ll arrange it for you.
It's for British (or Scottish) Gas customers only and you have to be on one of the following benefits:
Vulnerable Customer - Eligible Benefits
• Disability living allowance
• Pension Credit
• Attendance allowance
• War disablement pension which includes either a mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance
• Disablement pension which includes constant attendance allowance
• Child tax credit where the relevant income is £14,600 or less
• Working tax credit where the relevant income is £14,600 or less
• Council tax benefit
• Housing benefit
• Income-based job seekers allowance
• Income support
• Carers Allowance
• Severe Disability allowance

Thanks to Jenny and everyone else for their advice to try, try and try again. I told my mum-in-law about the rebate and, guess what, she hadn't heard of it either! She has got her £20 rebate for this time and another in April.

I rang for my elderly Mum in law this pm. and was told someone would confirm her entitlement (don't know whether they meant to the benefit or to the rebate, I wasn't asked for her NINO?) and she would hear from them in writing.
She receives Pension Credit and pays her bill at the PO weekly. Don't know if this makes a difference.
OK...I'm happy now. I rang again just now (I think the line is busy partly because of people like me querying what they said in the first phonecall :snow_grin ) and was reassured that my Mum in law qualifies and will be sent 2 cheques for £20, 1 end of Jan and 1 end of April.
Why didn't they say just that in the first place!
Happy New Year MS'ers! This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

My SIL phoned and she is on income suport. However as she married 3 weeks ago and her new huband is 65, he received the £200 winter fuel payment in November, so she can't claim this as well. Never mind. brilliant post0
