Just tried a test of faster payments. Sending £20.00, it let me choose today's date but on the confirmation page it quoted 02/12/2008.

You'll probably get this message on the confirmation page.

You have selected today's date. On this occasion we're unable to send this as an Immediate Faster Payment.

I tried Halifax FP today. 3 worked then I moved money between Halifax accounts then the next one failed to be FP. I think someone said the limit was 2 FP per day but perhaps that is now 3. Looks like the limit is still 500 too. Seems to me this is all a ploy to keep hold of people's money. Other banks have the system limit of 10k max and no limit on transfers.

I gave up last week and asked my daughter to try through her account (also with Halifax). She put through 3 x £500 to Tesco for me with no problems (didn't try more than 3) and I transferred the £1500 to her. So much for the problem being at the receiving end!

When I couldn't do it from my account, on the 27th I elected to send (as a test) £1 to my Nationwide Flexaccount and £1 to my son's account at RBOS, both to go on the 28th. Haven't checked with my son as yet, but the £1 to my Flexaccount showed up in the account the same day, so must have been sent by FP anyway. Most odd!
  • Shambolic. Sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't. Totally unreliable service from Halifax. Have made my formal complaint as £5000 disappeared into the BACS system and I missed the Tesco Finance clubcard offer because of HBOS systems. When I telephoned they hadn't a clue what level of service I should expect...."nothing is guaranteed" is the mantra....What on earth are they doing delivering such an undependable service on us IT guinea pigs. We are not beta-testers we are customers.

Transferring between my own halifax accounts takes forever also. Their online banking system is pretty poor if you ask me - I have had numerous problems.
