Afternoon all.Just got back from an outing to town, just mooching round looking for suitable Christmas pressies- not that I got any(but did get some idea)
I also called in the charity shops Jayward. My haul was 5 fairly new paperbacks and four long sleeved tops.Lunch was 2 choccy biccies eaten on the bus  ,and tea is pork shoulder steak in the Remoska.I have some broccoli to use up too,so that can go in.We're OK for afters as I baked yesterday-flapjacks,raspberry buns and victoria sponge.I might need to freeze some or it'll just disappear into DS2 :p
I spent a lot of time yesterday aft making more Christmas cards.Need to review my list and see how many I actually need,I don't use as many since I stopped work so I'm probably nearly there. Its the first of five cardmaking classes on Friday morning so looking forward to that.I've decided if I have too many I shall give them to the shop for the local hospice.I like to give to them as its where my Dad was,and they do a fantastic job.
Pink- sorry your son is still having problems.Hugs to you both.My DS2 had meningitis when he was 19(not the worst kind, thankfully)but they took ages to diagnose and he was in and out of the local hospital 4 times, until he eventually got transferred to a neuro ward at another hospital and things started improving, but I will never forget what a scary, horrible time it was.Lets hope he improves without needing the biopsy.
Beththebee-many happy returns ofthe day :j
Welcome Bargain bird- I like a bargain too!
Hugs to anyone I've missed xxx

    Afternoon All

(((hugs))) to your DS Pink, and to you. I am sure everything will be OK, and its good that he is being monitored.

Having a quick pop on here, am doing some extra paperwork so I have nothing to do tomorrow. Am off to the hairdressers later but OH bought a couple of small fireworks and some sparkers, he has Jacket Spuds in the remoska, hot dogs and tomato soup. Will eat and have our sparklers as soon as its dark. I am not bothered but he is like a big kid.

Am actually quite hungry so glad I dont have to wait long.

Have no ironing in the house :j :j , now machine is back working will keep on top of the ironing again.

Hope all you celebrating tonight have a great time and to everyone else - hope the fireworks dont drive you too mad. Better go off and find the cat now.

    Hi again,

Thanks for all your lovely messages, they really helped.:A I must admit to a few tears this morning, but I think part of that was shock because we really were expecting him to be discharged and when they started using words like biopsy and dialysis they scared us. I can do his urinalysis, and could probably do the blood pressure too but I called the GP this afternoon and we've set up weekly appointments for the surgery to do that.

I didn't get as far as the writing down what's in the store cupboards :o but I did get some chicken pieces out of the freezer and they're in the slow cooker with some veg, so it's slow cooker chicken surprise for tea...the surprise is that no one knows what the heck it'll taste like. Both boys are out to scouts and cubs this evening so it will be good to have something ready to serve when they're all home and not many pots and pans to wash up afterwards. It's not particularly cold here but I might light the fire because it cheers the place up in the evenings. We have a 'dog basket' grate so even a little fire in the middle of it makes the room feel warmer.

Catznine, Well done you for sorting out your cupboards even while wearing the bp monitor.
Jayward, I hope you're feeling better.
Mrs Mix, sorry to hear you're having pain in your joints...I hope you feel better soon. x
    bargainbird, welcome!
lamewolf, I have difficulties with meal plans too. What I try to do is make a plan of seven meals for the week but I often chop and change and switch them around to suit what's happening here each day.

    Thanks again, everyone.

    Afternoon all!

Finished decluttering my bedroom, cleaned the kitchen and chucked out loads of bits of paper from the sitting room, all those bits that the kids had to save, but actually can't remember why anymore! lol!

Then went out for lunch with a friend, very nice, back home to cookl dinner, pasta in tom and roast veg sauce with hm granary rolls that I made this morn in moski.

Not had time to catch up yet, still, so hugs where needed and congrats if due to anyone. Will try to pop back later, but I'm meant to be going out later to see some fireworks, but if I get any colder I shall stay in I think! xx

  • Bargainbird - I am relatively new on here (although I have been here long enough for everyone to humour me ) and they are a wonderful lot. Come on in and be welcome.

Lame Wolf. I am so sorry you are suffering. I also feel a complete failure when I look at the meal plan or the kitchen. I personally would switch things around, but then, I have abandoned nearly all hope of meal planning. I hope you don't mind me suggesting this, and I don't know how your paws are affected, but my two rather feeble suggestions are that perhaps you could prepare veggies on days when your paws permit and then freeze them. Also, you know those awful rough green squares you can use as pan scourers - well could you wear gloves and use those to scour off the skins of veggies? If your paws are bad perhaps the scourer wouldn't help, but I don't know how you are. I hope I have not suggested anything silly. I really do hope you feel better soon.

Little bear really likes breadmaker bread. I think the breadmaker is finally going to earn its keep. I have found a recipe for banana and peanut butter bread which sounds absolutely dreadful but marvellously full of nutrition for toddlers. I shall post up the recipe if I get around to trying it.

Pink-winged ...so sorry about your bad news, it's really hard being a parent sometimes. Hope things improve for your son soon.

Have only skim read the thread today as I've been "busy". My friend visits every other Wednesday so that we can talk books and eat cream cakes (not OS and not healthy but very, very nice). Today we both had a copy of Jane Brocket's book "Cherry Cake and Ginger Beer" to talk about which is a fabulous celebration of children's books and the food within. She has replicated loads of recipes from the famous Five, Just William, What Katy Did, Daddy Long Legs, Winnie the Pooh, Family from One End Street, Mallory Towers....and loads more. We had Sardines on Toast a la Mr Tumnus in The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe for lunch - Yum!

Other food served here today was/will be:-

    Breakfast: HM granola and bananas
Packed Lunches: HM rolls filled with grated carrot & grated cheese, HM coconut cake and fruit
Dinner: HM vegetable soup with HM crusty bread followed by apple sponge and custard.

I have also joined the store cupboard challenge. My freezer is a disgrace and needs completely emptying and re-filling. Just hope I can keep my nerves in check as the food stocks deplete - I do like the safe feeling of plenty of food in the house. :o

Right - off for one more look at my book before the family start returning home.

Sybil thankyou for the thought; the problem is not in scrubbing the veggies, that I can do, it's cutting them into chunks to go in the pot. I'm positively lethal with a knife in my hand, and on days when the paws won't co-operate, even more so.

I think we've got it sorted for today, Mr LW will cut the little beasties when he gets in, I'll just scrub them ready for him. Another time, I'll get him to cut them the night before and put them in the fridge, I think. At the moment freezing isn't an option, as the freezer's choc-a-bloc with food!:D

To give you an idea of how it is, I've started using the food processor to do pastry, which needs what we refer to as the "lethal blade". He's told me I'm to leave it in place after use and he'll take it out and wash it when he gets home. The thing is, I drop things on a regular basis, as my hands are weak and the joints don't work properly, and my instinct is to try and catch them - not a good idea when it's something sharp - and if I use a knife on something as hard as a potato, it oftenslips and gets me instead.
