Money saving isn't about being a miserable miser
We are not at the grandchildren stage yet, but have had similar gatherings in previous years when our sons were teenagers and their friends descended on the garden and we provided the food. It was actually good fun, and that was just watching the boys' enjoying the fireworks, never mind the fireworks themselves :rotfl:0 -
Happy birthday Beth...hope you manage to relax and take some time off to-day:bdaycake:.
Good luck to-day PenPin.
Going to make some meatballs to go with spaghetti to-night, hope that mince will stretch to some to go in the freezer as well.
Pleased with US election result, congratulations Barak ( apparently he has some Irish blood so feel I can be familiar!) I wish Ulick would turn off the tv, I have heard the same thing umpteen times since 9am.
Cats! Luca has managed to assert his supremacy over Roxie (new dog), in only 10 days, there has been no fight but she just moves aside from HER food when he approaches and then he stuffs himself and lets her back...he used to share rabbits he caught with our last dog so not sure if he knows that cats and dogs are different animals!
Hugs to all in need or want, congratulations to anyone celebrating, welcome to newbies, thank you for being my friends

Hi Olliebeak,
I love family get togethers! I hope you all have a great time and the effort you have put in will be worth it. I've added your post into the daily thread where we all talk about what we are up to in our days.

Hi all,
It seems so sad that this thread is so small now, I remember when I joined how it would regularly be 4 pages, and sometimes 5.. I wish everyone would come back.Beth honey
Hope you are feeling better Mrs Mix
choc.orange - post anyway - we miss you!
Welcome back D&DD, we missed you too!
That is great news JackieO!
PP - hope all goes well for youKaat honey - now that is a great prize, you can use them for the meal deals every month and save a fortune on groceries!! (or just spoil yourself of course!)
Does anyone know of any charity who give burseies or grants for people to have private treatment that they can't get on the national health? I know that sounds like a really stupid question cos I am sure they don't exist, but it seemed worth asking with the breadth of knowledge we have on here.
Knees seem better today which is great.. the left one still twinges as if it is going to collapse, but I know it won't, and the right is still tender to touch, but I can walk without support again, at least in the house, haven't tried the stairs yet, but ..
I really have nothing OS to post and suppose that means this might be deleted but I hope not. My OH is doing everything for me at the moment, and I can't make the stairs to do the garden (more chillis to be harvested) so nothing happening. I don't even have a clue what we are having for dinner though I suspect something with chicken.to all who need them today.

P.S Great news for America isn't it?To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. Afternoon everyone,
Beth, Happy Birthday! I hope you have a lovely day!
Some of you will remember how ill our 14 year old ds1 was when he had problems with his kidneys last year. Since then he’s had to have regular hospital appointments for check ups and today he had what we all expected to be his final hospital appointment. Who would have thought that a simple throat infection could lead to all he’s been through in the past year? Anyway, it wasn’t good news…he still has blood in his urine and his blood pressure is high. So he’s going to need his urine tested and his blood pressure monitored weekly for the next ten weeks. If the protein or blood levels increase or his blood pressure rises he’s going to have to go in for a biopsy.
Today is also the day that I begin my store cupboard challenge, so I’m trying to motivate myself to make a list of what’s in the cupboards, but I’m not really in the mood now.
I also need to find something in the freezer for tea. I’m very good at keeping my eye out for ‘bargains’ in the shops but not so good at getting them out of the freezer and actually using them. It could be an ‘interesting’ few weeks but well worth it if I can run the freezer down between now and Christmas.
We don't normally celebrate Guy Fawkes night here, probably for political reasons  but I hope those of you who are celebrating all have a great evening!

Before I moved up to Blackpool, I used to joint- host a fireworks party with my next-door neighbours - we'd take down the fence panels between the gardens, and he'd put fireworks at the far edge of my garden, then we'd all congregate in their garden & kitchen, with corned-beef hotpot & curry
Ok, my next question is:
I have a whole, cleaned salmon (in 2 sides, not yet steaks) which I found y/s for £5.10 yesterday. I am planning to freeze it in useable lumps (:o) Can I have a few ideas please? There are 2 of us (and bizarrely we had salmon risotto at the weekend so that's a no!) and we will eat most things......
Thanks in advance

Floss - I love salmon poached in white wine, put fillet in dish and top with a littel breadcrumb and herb and butter mix, dribble in some white wine round fish and pop in oven until cooked - about 20mins or so.
or salmon in oven dish with a teaspoon of pesto smeared on top with some parmezan and pine nuts sprinkled over - again 20mins in the oven and yummy.
or salmon pan fried with a teriyaki sauce with stir fry veg and noodles/rice.
HTH
pink sorry to hear about your son. hugs to you and him x

Salmon pasta sauce?
Salmon
Salmon En croute
salmon fishcakes, please?

Well, at least I have managed to get the breadmaker on.
I am doing so badly at watching my grocery spending - I just popped out to post some letters and I have spent nearly £10!
However, I am getting better than I was so I am concentrating on the good bits.
( And while I was out the postman called with the velcro that I want to use for the closure for a bag I have knitted to send to my American pen friend so I am still waiting only on that!)
And I have just realised that one of the envelopes with a cheque in is missing the form that should have gone with it
And I have realised that dear heart leaves the printer on all the time if the computer is on
I have absolutely no idea what to do for tea.
Can you freeze olives? I impulse bought (I need to be ashamed of this) a 300g tin of olives stuffed with garlic paste. I was planning on thinly slicing about half and adding it to a casserole tomorrow, but I thought the whole tin might be a bit overwhelming.
Still haven't broken open the packet of the dye for the rugs  I'll let you know...
And against all odds I have a ripe chilli outside which I shall pick later. Little bear was on the reins this morning and good heavens it was energetic!
I have a large number of projects on the go at the moment, but I am feeling a little low, so I shall start another one. I think this says a lot about me.
So I am going to tear myself away from the computer and, well, do something!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0
