Wed 5th Nov, Guy Fawkes Night

Options
Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Wed 5th November, 2008. It is an 'over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.

Morning all,

Hope every one is well today, quiet on here again, come back all those still not posting, we miss you ;) .

Off to w**k today, first time for over a week, so I am sure there will be lots to catch up on, still it will keep me busy :D .

Spag bol for tea, which is made and in the fridge, so will just heat it and cook the spagetti tonight, Yesterday I also made HM lamb burgers which were delish, coconut cake and cookies. I was able to give my poorley neighbour who lives alone some warm cookies which cheered her up.

Rubbish and recycling are going out today. Will have a quick tidy through before work, and put a wash on when I get in tonight.

Another neighbour bought me up four Airum (sp) lillies for my garden, which are beautiful, so will make him a cake in return.

Pen pin, good luck at the hospital

Hugs to Candy and Smoky xx

  • Morning RR & all who follow.
I forgot to say yesterday, I got to work & there was another desk in my room, I couldn't use it though as there were 2 filing cabinets in front of it, none of the other Occ Health recommendations had been acted upon & it looks like they will all be ignored, I'm feeling pretty gutted about it.
I will take my camera in today, so at least I have evidence of the problems, I'll also carry on looking for another job, though I don't hold out much hope.
Tea for tonight is sorted, still using the rest of the turkey up.
Have a good day everyone, I'll be thinking about you PP.
    Hugs Hester

  • Good morning everyone  I'm cycling to w*** again this morning. It wasn't too bad yesterday, but was drizzling on the way home. I was glad I'd cycled - there was a bad accident (bent metal only, no injuries ;) ) causing long tailbacks, that I was able to just glide past :T

I've decided that my freezer needs a good clear out (no idea what might be at the bottom of it :o ) so have joined in the Storecupboard Challenge thread :j There are lots of familiar faces over there, so I'm hoping we can get it going :T

Leftover aubergine and mozarella bake for lunch, and sausages in HM rolls for tea. We're off to the brilliant bonfire and fireworks in the next town later, so need something that the children can have quickly between my getting home, and going out. My meal plan's all over the place this week :o

Have a great day, Penny. x

........ do frozen rasps & blackberries make good jam?

As an advance on yesterday's question, if I freeze the 6 punnets of y/s strawberries, can I then jam them from frozen, or do I need to jam them tonight? (I used to ask my mum these questions, but now I've got you lot to bother with my inadequacies :D)

Hester, why not ring Occy Health & ask "if the report has been sent to work, as something isn't quite right"...you never know, they may just turn up & visit without warning, and doesn't an employer have a legal obligation to accomodate any occy health recommendations (unless they have a darn good reason)? I can't remember, are you in a union at all? Good idea to get the evidence, can you put a date onto your photos so there is no doubt & you can't be accused of tampering? Good luck.

PenPin, hope everything goes according to plan, will be thinking of you. (BTW, OH could put a small amount of gravy or stock over the leftover pork to reheat, should keep it moist).

    Morning all,
Can't tear myself away from the news -wow, the American people have finally come to their senses:j

I'd completely forgotten about Guy Fawkes -all the big displays were at the weekend. Might pop out and get some sparklers later if there are any left.

I want to do some baking today-bread, some sort of cakey type thing for the kids and I might get my jam done.

Got my mum coming over this afternoon- sigh, hope she doesn't stay too long:o

We've just had scrambled eggs/baked beans for breakfast.

The kids have pitta pizzas, raspberry-redcurrant crumble cake and fruit for lunch, OH has sardine sarnies. I expect I'll have the same.

Supper will be baked lentils with cheese from the More With Less Cookbook -green lentils baked with carrots and tinned tomatoes with cheese sprinkled over. We'll have it with baked potatoes and some leftover salad leaves/red cabbage from the freezer.

    Good Morning All

PP - Hope it goes OK today.

Floss - cant really help as never made Jam but I do know from this board that you can make jam from frozen fruit.

Busy day today. Have Tai Chi this morning, need to go into town early to drop off the cards for my Nans flowers as they are being delivered this afternoon - the funeral is for tomorrow.

Then home for lunch followed by an afternoon of ironing. Then off back to town this evening to have my hair done.

Didnt do any ironing or cleaning yesterday but did make a lovely carrot cake in the Remoska. Actually not much cleaning will get done all week - it will still be there at the weekend!

    See you later.

:hello: Good Morning! and what a morning! WOW! What a wonderful result in America! :j so relieved! My cousin out there will be so happy!

My drs appointment is within the hour and I will soon have the 24 hour bp monitor fitted. Not sure how this will affect my day, hoping to do a storecupboard list for the challenge, maybe some baking as well (have loads of frozen bananas to use up:eek::rotfl:) so banana and choc chip muffins and banana bread will be made.

Lunch is more leftover lentil soup, Dinner tonight will be fish pie to use up some pollack and prawns.

I bought the 1980's "Bazaar" bbc prog cook book last week, from ebay, and love it. It has recipes from Shirley Good and Bernadine Lawrence amongst others. Does anyone else remember the Bazaar series? It was full of great ideas for cooking and sewing on a budget.

(((hugs))) to Essex girl, Penpen, Smoky, Candygirl, Mrs Mix, Jayward and anyone else who could use one

JackieO - I raised a small glass of red to you last night! hic!

    Have a lovely day!

    Morning peeps

another miserable looking day today but it`s not actually raining yet so fingers crossed that it stays dry.

I`m waiting for the water to heat up and then i can hop in the bath before walking the monsters.

I need to have a quick look through my list and see if there is anything that i need to pick up today as i`m taking dad to the revamped Sainsburys which is quite near. I used up a lot of fruit last night to begin making some more marmalade, the fruit is sitting in the pressure cooker base at the moment so the marmalade will get the sugar added and finished off later today when i get the time.

Dinner tonight will either be beef hash or gammon & mushroom pasta, i shall have to decide later, i need pasta so if i forget then we shall have hash :D

Sybil - Monster cat varies hugely in the amount that she eats and all our cats have been the same. Our last two would stick their nose in the air and walk away from food and leave it to go nasty in the bowl (it didn`t actually get to that stage as we had two german shepherds), our current cat wouldn`t dream of wasting any and can eat anything from three quarters of a tin per day to 7 pouches  each day.

I do use a different brand of food most days to stop her getting bored and she will torment relentlessly for tuna but she also loves the crunchy corners from toast, i`ve caught her standing on her back legs pilfering from the dogs raised bowls a few times too  She rules the roost in our house and both the dogs know it :rotfl: I hope that you manage to get the meds down evil cat without too much fuss - good luck!

Right i`m off to drape washing artistically over the radiators and then have my bath.

    Have a good day peeps.
