will have forgotten it - lol, i don't think so. A £6k debt to a mate is not something you forget. He is avoiding you.

Wait for his reply, give hm about 28 days to pay it back, if not go to court. And most importantly? Have !!!! all to with the scrounger ever again.

PS Are you sure he hasn't give the money back to your hubby and he just hasn't told you? Could be funding something on the side?! ;)

  • I borrowed 600 from a friend over 13 years ago, with every intention of paying it back and then found I wasn't able to at the time. It cost me my friendship and having turned my life around is something I know I'll always feel guilty and upset about until the day I die. In fact even now, I often wonder how I could go about tracking my friend down and repaying the money I borrowed from him and what sort of reaction I would get from him if I tried to contact him to repay the money as obviously the friendship ended very badly. Your friend if he has a conscience may well be aware that he owes you this money and worrying about how to pay you back. I'd try to talk to him and remind him that he owes you this money and also ask him to make some sort of formalised payment arrangement with you so that hopefully you end up getting at least some of your money back without losing the friendship.
loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!

You're a good mate, aren't you..."the money I leant you years back...and have never asked you to give back...hand it over in 28 days or you're going to court"

    With friends like these...
  • Good on you for emailing him. It doesn't matter if you don't exactly need it. I'm sure you could think of plenty of things to do with it. such as saving it, overpaying on your mortgage or going on the holiday of a lifetime. It is very unfair of him to make you feel bad about asking for it back. Then again, maybe he was in a bad place at the time and has forgotten about it. Maybe he will be very embarassed about it? I hope you get a positive response.

Nice you are in a position to allow £6k to be given away.
  • Have I missed something here? Am I being criticised for lending a mate money, and feeling bad for having to ask for it back? As it happens, I do feel bad - but surely I shouldn't have to ASK for it back?I really don't think he's forgotten (how could you?) ...
    Debt-free...and staying that way...
