  • Well thanks all for your support. I haven't had a response from him as yet, but will keep you all posted...and we only let it go on this long because he was having such a rough time personally....

Well done for asking for the money back, I think you've been more than fair to your friend, I've got a horrible feeling that DH and I are going to end up in a similar situation with a friend (albeit it's only £400) and I'm starting to get really miffed about it already and it's only 11 months since we lent him the money
  • well said ajaney and no offence to the dfw menfolk but yes i agree if you can turn it around to make hubby think its his idea to chase the debt then go for it cos he made the decision to lend it he needs a push to make the decision to reclaim it
  • It seems to be a common thing. My friend was only telling me at the weekend that a mutual friend had asked for a lend of £200 a few months ago as they were struggling with the mortgage that month. My friend gave him the money no problem. The next time he saw the mutual friend was a couple of months later when they were playing golf. This mutual friend proceeded to show my friend his new golf club (and no mention of the money). What really annoyed my friend was the fact that his own golf club was in bits! Now that is cheeky!
    Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947
    DFD:Nov 22/June 22
    Mortgage: €199,712
    MFD: March 2042/July 2034
  • Looking forward to hearing what his response is!! I don't think anyone was having a go at you schoolrunmum. I think some people were just surprised that there were posters saying "ooh, you should sue him.. blah blah" when he hadn't even had a gentle reminder that he owed the money. Fingers crossed he feels VERY guilty now he HAS been reminded and pays up sharpish!!

Hmmm, bit disappointing, but does he usually take a while to respond? Perhaps give him another week then send another e-mail if you still haven't heard back - nothing too strong, a sort of 'have you had a chance to think about it yet' type thing. :)

I hate to say it but I guess he is probably avoiding the subject. If I received an email about money I owed (whether i had forgotten about it or not) I would be replying straight away if they were any kind of friends. I hope that he has the decency to get in contact but I wouldn't hold you breath I fear

You should have had even a `oh gosh yes I forgot` email by now.
