16th April - still no sign of my refund despite several follow up calls and being told my cheque is in the post.

I am now seeking legal advice regarding my outstanding monies.

    Good Morning Everyone,

    I come with glad tidings.

Please do persevere with asking for your money back. My money has finally been refunded.

I did have to threaten them with legal action and set a deadline in order to achieve this though. So stand your ground and make it plain that you will not let it rest until you have your money refunded.

  • Hi All,
Am new here, decided to register after reading your comments about First Line Services! I don't think the actual company First Line Services is bogus, I think some people are using that company to get money out of us......I was called on Thursday after 5pm, (just as the banks closed their fraud offices[!]) by Kieran, from 1st line services (apparently) and he said he was instructed by the Ministry of Justice to claim back payment protection insurance which I had paid in 1997 (that is when we 1st took out our mortgage (but how did he know that???)), he then gave me the first 4 digits of my card number asking me to confirm the rest of the numbers. I was hesitant, but he said how would I know the 1st 4 digits of your card number (aparently all cards from my bank have the same 1st 4 disgits) and then he gave me the website details of 1stlineservices.com and then a reference number (crm14628) which I was to "google". Once I googled this number, I was to click on the first link (CMR: Claims Management Regulation), this would take me into the so called MOJ site instructing 1st line services to reclaim PPI. Once I had given him my card details, he said I had to make a refundable payment of £99.99 (no mention of this before I'd given my card details). He then put me through to his colleague Matthew, who confirmed what was going to happen. I would apparently get some authorisation letters which I would have to sign and return which would then mean they, with the solicitors would release my PPI payments made to them. The guy Kieran was very forceful and quite rude when I doubted what he was saying and would say that if I did not give the card details now, then there would be no other way of me being able to reclaim the PPI I had paid....during the conversation he also mentioned Martin Lewis who apparently appeared on GMTV regarding PPI misselling! The money had been taken from my account even before the telephone conversation had ended. I had my online banking page open and as I saw the balance go down I questioned Matthew saying you've already taken the money from my account and he said no, I said I can see the money has gone in front of me...as soon as I said that, he hung up...That just confirmed what my instinct was trying to tell me throughout the whole conversation......
I called the police and got a crime number, and am going to try on Monday to see if my bank can get this money back for me!! I've also posted on watchdog site, and Consumer Direct.....I'm going to try my hardest not to let these ******s get away with this!!

If 1st Line Services are a genuine company, why dont they state on their website (preferably on the homepage) that they will not ask for people's card details over the phone...this way they avoid getting blamed for something they apparently are not involved in!!!

he said he was instructed by the Ministry of Justice to claim back payment protection insurance

That sort of wording is very common with the dodgy claims companies. It is of course a fraudulent claim they are making.

Re 1stline services. I received an unsolicited call on my mobile a couple of days ago. The girl who called me (Candice) advised me that she was calling to help me reclaim PPI on my Halifax mortgage. She did no security check whatsoever so had no idea if she was talking to her intended target. I informed her that I didn't have a mortgage with the Halifax but she replied "no but you used to have", which was right enough, although I changed mortgage providers about 3 years ago. When I told her that I didn't have PPI on the mortgage she said that it was more than likely that I did, I just didn't realise it. I assured her that this was not the case as I am one of those boring people who actually do read the small print and I knew exactly what I was paying for. She carried on regardless assuring me that because the Ministry of Justice had appointed them to carry out this important service and had provided my details it was almost certain that I had been paying for PPI. She then explained that she could send me paperwork to authorise them to act on my behalf and I would only be charged an admin fee of £99 which would be refunded on completion of the action. I asked for paperwork to be sent so I could read it over and discusss with my husband but was told the paperwork could only be sent if I paid the fee over the phone now. I queried this and advised her that I would like to do some investigation into this and she became quite aggressive and told me that there was nothing to be concerned about as they were acting on behalf of the Ministry of Justice. When I then informed her that my husband was a serving Police Officer and I am a retired Police Officer and that we were well aquainted with scams she hung up - what does that tell you? Don't get involved with this company, they are well and truly at it!

I think everyone that is contacted ought to make complaints to the MOJ about them. I must get about 3 calls a day from different companies.
  • I was called twice last week by a welsh girl called laura claiming that my parents were claiming money back for a mortgage. She was very persistent and said she was working for the halifax. My parents were not in at the time so i said i would take a message and call her back then she wanted to know about any1 else in the house having credit cards etc i said yeah theirs afew and il phone her back in half an hour.
15 mins later shes back demanding payment. So i foolishly gave her £99 thinking that there would be a check in the post for £1800 later on.
People like these lazy stupid scrounging !!!!! are the reason the countrys gone tits up they make money out of other peoples misery and are getting away with it somehow. Im only 21 and they trying to claim money for me with know loans or anything i don't see how they can make a £30 late payment bank charge on a credit card into a claim.
still havent received the documents and i will try and get the money back if not they will be reported and i will contact lawyers to resolve whatever they have done wrong in misleading and fraudulent claims.

Report them to the MOJ. This has got to stop.

Miffi your experience sounds very similar to mine. I was cold called by someone called Robin who gave me the exact same speech as you received. I also said that I would like to discuss it with my husband before making a decision as I'm very aware of the number of telephone scams around at the moment. She said she would call me back later that day to discuss it further. I said that was okay & then mentioned that my husband is a serving police officer so I liked to make sure everything was above board before I committed to anything. Strangely enough she never called back..........
  • Was stung by this lot yesterday. Then after they obtained my details, I found this thread and began to panic. Phoned back Matthew Price (and Tony Hartwell) at 1st Line who became rather obnoxious and gave me a whole rant about ex 1st Line employees creating trouble for them and posting disparaging remarks about their company online. Apparently they have the police looking into these posted remarks (ironic)........guess we no longer live in a country which houses free speech!

I have to return the forms when they arrive with a covering letter and I should get my refund. Strangely, I called the bank yesterday, (almost straight after giving 1st Line my details) and cancelled my card, but they said they weren't able to block the payment as I had given my details to these cretins voluntarily. The bank said they would wait for the payment to come off and then fill out a non fraudulent claim form (whatever that is).....and then try to get the money back.

    Will keep you guys informed!
