I think there can only be one explanation. There have been a number of news stories highlighting where bank databases and credit card records have been stolen in the past. How else would they get hold of such information?
I am a former Broker, former IFA and former compliance officer, for my sins.

However, I have since seen the light.

Someone posted this on another thread and I think this more likely

I think you will find that your details were passed on to them by the broker who originally dealt with your mortgage/loans

In these lean times it seems that some brokers have decided to bite that hand that fed them by passing details of their past clients on to these vultures who, with no evidence to back up their claims, will then contact you and promise £££££'s back to you in return for a 'small' up front fee. It would be amusingly ironic if it turned out that some of these brokers actually sold the PPI themselves and ended up being the one's claimed against.

Do yourself and everyone else a favour and report these cretins to the Ministry of Justice. Hopefully they will eventually get a real job.

(Hope you do not mind me using your post here brock)

Here is the details for first line services (also known as 1st Line) on the MOJ register

    http://www.claimsregulation.gov.uk/details.aspx/14628/First_Line_Services_(UK)_Ltd/2

ALthough they are regulated does not mean they are following the rules. I would like to know how these former brokers that start up on the other side get hold of these details that they have. Its so wrong that they have card details like in this thread. Its a problem that needs addressing. I know when I took out my loans I left the box unticked on the application that said about data being used. Its the same as the PPI and is another complaint really.

I have never ever used a broker for any of my mortgages or loans, my first mortgage was with C&G in 1982 re mortgage again with C&G then remortgaged with Abbey 6 years ago and any loans have been with my bank TSB, so as far as i know there was no broker involved

You just cannot trust anyone with anything can you. Perhaps a complaint to the ICO might be in order. Its data that is being used without permission. I think something needs doing here. They should not have card details.

That is really scary that is what I have done C and G and Lloyds. How do these people get your details.

Mind you saying this I have sky plus and also insurance on that to pay if anything goes wrong it is paid by direct debit every month and just carries on. Had a call from people supposedly from Sky knew when the subscription would normally end and asking me to re subscribe. I told them to go away cause I was busy at the time. Next day rang Sky and they said I did not need to do anything cause I was covered. How did they get this info. They told me they were sky. Luckily once bitten twice shy and I check everything. How do they get this info.

Just received a call from First Line claiming that I had been "illegally" sold PPI on "all my finances registered at my address" (??) and that they could help me claim it back. Having had it up the eyeballs lately with cold-calling from companies claiming to be someone they were not, (Sky insurance about to expire, anyone??) I immediately asked:
    1) How they know I've got insurance
    2) How they know that I might not consider it to be "illegal" and not required
    3) Where they got my number from? And had I asked them to call me???

The twit I spoke to said "it was just on a piece of paper on my desk" so I asked who gave him the piece of paper, and he said he couldn't tell me that. When I pointed out the stupidity of him refusing to tell me how he had obtained info, and yet he felt it was okay to contact me without my permission, he started to get really stroppy (mind you, I was getting a bit p'eed off myself by this stage). When I asked him to remove my name and number from his records, he replied that he wouldn't and would actually pass that piece of paper round the office so that he and the other cretins could phone me once every five minutes. "Oh how mature of you all" I replied, and hung up. What else could I say?! I was shocked at how quickly the call had gone from "we can help you" to "we can harrass you". Obviously, I'm glad I told them how I felt, although I'm not relishing the thought of past-midnight nuisance phone calls, but it was more than an hour ago that he promised to call every 5 mins, and nothing so far. They can't even get that right!
On another point, I too have registred with the Telephone and Post Preference type-people, so what are they doing to stop companies like these contacting us un-solicited? Nothing, it would appear. Ho Hum. AND I've had a couple of those one-ringer type calls with an unknown number, so between them, "SKY" satelite insurance, and this bunch of numpties, I think I've had more than my fair share thank-you!
Good luck to all and remember to spread the word about suspicious companies and be vigilant at all times!!!!

If you advise any company that you are on the telephone preference service they must immediately cease from contacting you. It is one of the regulations stipulated by the MOJ that the Telephone marketing standards must be applied at all times.

This company is in total breach of these regulations and should be reported if they contact you in such a manner. For the Dork at the other end of the phone to state they will get their mates to call is simply outrageous.

As for them having the Card details. I really doubt that any Mortgage Broker or Financial Adviser would sell records of credit card details. I feel sure that the information will have been stolen by data thieves. I have read of people's credit card numbers and pins being sold in India for £5 per record. it was in the papers only recently.
