Should I pay..Civil Enforcement Ltd?
Comments

Hi. I recieved a notice from a company called civil enforcement ltd for parking at the rivergate shopping centre, irvine. It said I had been there from 12.26 to 17.09 but I am always careful of my time ther so do not believe I would have done this. They say they have photographic evidence and wnt me to pay ten pound for it!! Also citizens advice phoned the shopping centre who sai it not anything to do with them but that you cannot leave and return again before an hour is up but this is not stated on the sign. Also I have done some checking and they are a member of the british parking association so how likely is it that I could be taken to court. I know it has never really been heard of but knowing my luck I would be the one to be made an example of and I cannot diaprove that I was htere as I dont remember. Can anyone help?0

Don't be fooled by them being a member of the BPA. It's not a regulator on the lines of Ofcom or Ofgem. It's just a trade association financed by the parking "industry".
They won't take you to court. Do not contact the company and ignore all correspondence from them. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -

Yes.
Take letter 1 from them and put in bin.
Take letter 2 from them and put in bin.
Take letter 3 from them and put in bin.
Take letter 4 from them and put in bin.
Take letter 5 from them and put in bin.
Take letter 6 from them and put in bin.
End of game.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -

These companies play on the fact that people worry like you are now. Calm down!

The fake ticket is a scam. Getting letters from a debt collector for a scam is no biggie; debt collectors cannot do anything - no-one can send the boys round and you will not get your day in Court!
Read the stickies, look at the letters she or the registered keeper will just need to ignore. Nothing happens, it's not a crime, not a fine, NOT A PENALTY. There will be no bailiffs, no CCJ, no effect on your credit rating. It's just like deleting a series of phishing emails. Most of us here have ignored a fake PCN from a private company, or several.
The Watchdog video with the paper aeroplane is my favourite:

Do not pay, only uninformed people and mugs fall for this rubbish!!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I first received a 'parking fine' when I moved to a new area and parked on Aldi fo my shopping. First I knew of any fine was about 3 months later when my mail was collected from my old house and two letters were there from Parking Eye along with a lovely little piccie of my car entering and leaving the carpark. Funny, the queue I sat in to leave the carpark pushed me over the time limit! If I paid within 14 days it would be half. What a joke. My partner told me the letter looked well dodgy and started googling on here as he does for everything! pages and pages of these stories. couple more letters later and didnt hear anymore. Funny how it is still legal for the DVLA to sell your private and confidential details to companies that they have no clue what they are going to do with your information. And a my vehicle registration documents hadnt had time to have the address changed, all letters went to an address 40 miles away from where the 'crime' took place! Long way to drive to get your shoppig from Aldi! and it wasnt even me driving, it was my partner, just because i am the registered keeper they seem to think they can send me an abusive and illegal letter!! my old car was 'registered' to my dad as he bought it for me, so if i'd had parked on a carpark to do my shopping an hou away fom where he lives, he wuld have recieved my 'fine' to his address; something tells me he wouldnt have been too pleased!! Was told my everyone just ignore, so I did. last month parked on the pet shop carpark i always use, 2 weeks later a lovely letter arrives from Civil Enforcement Ltd (by now i have changed my reg docs, damn!!) first of all i had to figure out what carpark they were accusing me of parking on as there isnt even a name on it. then after a week i went to check it out, it would seem the 'sign' telling you you only have 75 mins to park is the size of a postage stamp stuck took a wall; so obvious how did i miss it!! funny as the sign outside the pet shop says 'parking for customers only'... well seeing as i spent a small fortune in their shop and then popped across the road when i'd finished to grab something else, then returned and went home, i'd say i as pretty spot on to class myself as a customer and have the right to park there. not only that it was 2pm on a sunday afternoon and there was only one other car on the whole carpark thetime i was there!! oddting is it was there when i parked up, a and still there when i left, wonder if they got a nice letter like mine. Mmmm wonder where the staff are allowed to park, obviousy not on there own carpark as you only get 75 mins and then cant return for 3 hours, kinda defeats the object of the sign 'come to our petshop look around, parking is free'; maybe i should hae parked in the disabled spot or the taxi rank like i saw some doing to run into the shop???? this is a nice fat fine for £150 now! 2nd letter has arrived, lets see what happens next. apart from the letter looking like a cold has photocopied it out of a colouring book, it amazes me that they can get away with illegally using the 'criminal scales of justice' logo on their letters when they are by no means anything to do with the law, i should know, i work for the police. I guess the term 'data protection' means nothing to the DVLA as they sell your personal info for £2.50 a go. Worse thing you can do is contact these people; these letters are made to look and sound professional (well if thats what you can call it)in order to scare you into paying them, IGNORE ALL LETTERS they are not legal, they are not a criminal prosecution, they are privae companies who think they have the right to intimidate and rip you off; have you seen it all on Watchdog? i shall see what they theaten me wth next!0

best thing to do is complain to the retailer head office, send a copy of the letter you got from the scammers, and point out what you said above, as a parting shot tell them that if this is how you treat legitimate customers you will take your business elsewhere, also say that you have forwarded this onto to the local press, they love stuff like thisExcel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
By the way if you want to watch the watchdog videos again or want to pass it to people, here is a link to them all

Good stuff. This is standard practice, you'll probably get one or two more threatening letters, probably with red type etc, then they'll give up.0 -

Ignoring them is the right thing.
Their letter chain, and Newlyn's, are on this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2214803 You should be able to tick them off as you get them, or add your own if they are different.0
