All done now and achieving the same download speed as being plugged in to the test socket. Fantastic result. Thanks all.

Could you send the payment to the usual address, cash, as always!

You are a sad, miserable excuse for a person.

I'm glad to say that you are the exception to the friendly and nice people on this site.

Unfortunately, in life there will always be unhappy people like you who enjoy insulting others. Unhappy people always like to spread their misery.

I'm happy to say I am not like you.

I'm sorry that you are such a failure that you enjoy posting insults.
  • The REAR view (BACKPLATE) of the NTE-5 shows the faceplate in situ (now at the rear) and a lightning protector near the A B C screw terminals. Earlier posts may have confused people with mention of RF chokes, this is clearly a protector.
My question is does the BACPLATE ever need changing due to lightning strikes?.
If so, are the symptoms high attenuation?
After fitting ADSL Nation XTE, my attenuation is still 45db

Check you do not have a RF filter in the line as in my previous post

Not sure if the BT backplate with surge protector varistor normally needs replacing. It should present a high resistance until a certain voltage is applied. What is the distance from your local exchange? see here Does your attenuation figure line up with your line length? see here

  • @shammyjack --- nothing outside the NTE at all

@espresso ---- Kitz tells me By road 2.74km and by another one of its tests
Kitz tells me that 45dB gives a distance of 3.3km,
so allowing for the bends (ha ha) its about right, that one solved so
Kitz tells me that with 45dB I should get 5000k IP profile and
    5888k max on ADSLmax
I am on Virgin, obviously using BT Wholesale.
BT speedtester says my IP profile is 2000k
My USRobotics Router says my sync speed is 4192k
PC feels like I get 1000k max
I read on Kitz that my bRAS profile can get stuck and needs a BT reset. Other posts on this thread say that it adjusts itself and it takes about 3 days or at worst a router power down overnight. Anyideas which?
  • a 2k profile is almost certainly fixed, contact virgin to get it changed.
be sure to sync the modem in the daytime, not at night, as you should get better sync

Thanks tonyhague, I have already tried Virgin customer care, they just laugh and thier technical people pretend they don't understand and say nothing can be done by them or BT. Time for a move methinks
  • hi, having used the testing bit inside the main socket, half the other phone sockets in the house continue to work. Not sure if I have misunderstood but I thought that all the other sockets should not work once the front plate of the main socket is disconnected. Any one advise me?

If your extensions have been wired correctly, they will be connected to the removable NTE5 faceplate. If some extensions still work they are obviously not wired to the faceplate as they should be.
