BT I-Plate promises to speed up ADSL connections by up to 60%; will it work for you?

Hi
Everyone seems to rate this so I opened up my master socket. Only 2 wires connected: 2 & 5. In fact the socket does not even HAVE terminals for 1 & 6! Then I went round the extension sockets and found some had terminals 3 and 4 connected so I removed the wires. No increase in broadband performance (still a measly 750 - BT say excessive distance means I won't ever get 1 Meg!). So I assume no point buying the i-plate?0 -

The I-plate will not make any difference to you, as you already have only the 2 & 5 wires connected and no bell wire (3) connection to disconnnect. Later master sockets such as yours (and mine) don't have terminals 1 & 6 as these wires are not required in domestic installations. The 3 connection in the other sockets shouldn't make any difference once the master is disconnected.
We have the same issue with distance, although the speed tests suggest we should be getting nearer 2Meg - next stage is to try a better microfilter (XTE2005 Master socket faceplate).

try connecting directly to the test socket to completely rule out your extension as an issue, if you want to run a long cable, make it cat5 rather than phone
This is good advice (for others).
For us the next move is to go wireless, with the router connected directly to the master socket, so we can connect the laptop at the same time. I will also replace the master socket faceplate (with an ADSL-Nation XTE-2005 filter) to rule out the microfilter as a bottleneck -- and then it's down to BT/our ISP to do their bit!

Can someone enlighten me regarding the following:
When plugged in to the test socket my download speed is almost three times as fast(.9 v 2.6) which points to wiring problems. Is I-plate/removing bellwire likely to be of any benefit at all?0 -

If you have a wire on terminal three at the master socket, simply remove it and see. Only wires on 2 & 5 are actually needed. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

All done now and achieving the same download speed as being plugged in to the test socket. Fantastic result. Thanks all.0
