Hi, thanks for replying, I am sure I had three wires in the main socket connected after removing the bell wires... I have since gone round and removed the bell wires from all my telephone sockets and this has not made a difference, its really frustrating knowing I can get a much faster connection if I use the master socket, I am now wondering if I get the net5 plate and see if that sorts me out... so frustrating...

I have rebooted the router today as I dont leave it on all the time and I am still getting a poor connection speed.

    Any advice would be appreciated

  • You connected via an extension? move the router to the master socket and use either wireless or a long cat5e cable to connect the pc

Removing the ring wire from extension sockets will have no effect, you only need to remove this wire at the master. Only the wires connected to 2 & 5 are required as explained previously in this thread!

Have you tried using the master test socket? see this post here. This will give you your maximum achievable speed.

Leave the router on, they are designed to be left on! You can monitor the sync rate in the router set-up screens.

Router is connected to the main socket...

I connected the router to the master socket (under the cover) and got around 5MB... now when I use the face plate on the master socket I get 1MB...

Is that 1MB when only wires on 2 & 5 are connected to the lower face plate?

So when you re-fit the face plate and plug into that, what speed do you get?

    something like 13xxkbps

interestingly just ran broadband speed checker and it says my download speeds are currently 928kbps yet the router is reporting the 5125kbps... but surfing seems faster certainly on this site anyway
