  • Yellowrock, well done.
I haven't experienced that myself, but I did find that when I had my first ciggie of the day, it gave me the runs. I wondered whether it was adrenalin or something.
What do you take for your IBS?

Edited to add that I haven't experienced sex for a while either though.

I hope you're now sleeping peacefully.

Ta very much, I did indeed sleep peacefully. The spaceyness didn't last quite as long this time, but I feela bit fuzzy today - but I started the pregabalin last night/this morning and I don't know if that's got anything to do with it...?

  • Have just had a cast around the net and there are some studies relating diarroeah to sex hormones. Have you ever mentioned this to GP or Nurse?

Right - I've now caught up on the last 3 pages! Can't believe how much I've missed today!

I've missed you all today - is that sad? Told you we'd end up living through this forum rather than using it to comment on our lives! lol

I managed to get to the mechanics who have my dead car (which OH wrote off) to get my tax disc (so I should get about £50 refunded for that) etc. I also got a phone call from the insurance engineer saying that "unfortunately the car will be a total loss"... it would appear that a total loss to him and a total loss to me is a completely different thing, as he went on to say that the valuation on the car (with lots of blah blah blah inbetween) would be £900! Now that might not mean much to you, but bearing in mind that we're talking about a T reg Punto which is red on one side (resprayed within the last 2yrs) and pink on the other, etc etc, you start to get the impression that I wouldn't've got £900 if I'd tried to sell it! :T Once you add £50(ish) for the refund on the tax disc it makes £950 and I'm a happy lady :D Even if they do still hold OH liable for 70% (how they work out percentages of blame I've *no* idea!), once 70% of my excess is taken off we're still gonna have £750ish... which I can cope with :)

We got back from the mechanics to check in on OH's mum before OH went to work and it's a good job we did, as she was nowhere to be found!! Turns out she'd gone off for a cataract operation without saying anything!! (Complications from the diabetes etc) Daft woman. So I ended up taking OH to work so I could come back over to OH's to look after his mum tonight. She got back just as I did, so that was good timing! She said "ooh, I am glad you're here!" - so of course she got a telling off, for not letting us know, in return :D

Right, I'll trawl back and do my multi-quote thing now ;)

I've plucked up the courage to chat about the embarrasing problem I have!:o

Whenever I have sexual intercourse about 2-3 hours later, I get terrible stomach cramps and dihorrea?(sp), not that it is that often, with the pain and tiredness:rotfl: Does anyone else get similar symptoms, I have IBS with the FMS and wondered if some sort of hormone release etc has something to do with it, either that or the rush of adrenaline released at a certain point:eek:

Well thats it out in the open
    thanks

You have to pay for the pleasure yellowrock...

    Only kidding!

Just thank your lucky stars that it happens 2 to 3 hours later and not at the time, or soon after.

There must be a reason for it, but I don't know what it is.

Not making fun, love, just trying to be light hearted about it.

Fair play to you for posting.

And I hope someone can come up with a viable answer as to why that happens.

BZ - when I saw my dr about getting Tramodol, she said Id have to stop taking the co-codomol as the two cant be mixed, she said if I needed additional pain releif to take paracetomol. I must say although Im still in quite a bit of pain on my right side, the Tramodol has dulled it and made me feel so spacey I dont really care about it.
My advice is not to take Tramadol too often or rely on it too much, as with everything else, I've found it more effective if you take it every now and again.
Saying that I think I was on it v regularly when I had sinusitis last year and stayed in bed (as a result) for like 2 months.

sue p my gp prescribes tramadol and cocodamol (500/30) together.I don't think paracetemol on top of cocodamol would be good for you as cocodamol has paracetemol in it.So do some forms of tramadol, but not all.I can take ibuprofen with it and take diclofenac and robaxin when necessary.Just dont expect a sensible conversation!
Crutches, do you get spacey too, when/if you take diclofenac and tramadol?
I had a horrible day emotionally yesterday and wanted to say thanks to BZ and s/e for allowing me to vent in a cathartic stream of conciousness.
Trying to pick myself up a bit today and will try to keep busy as poss.
Why, oh why, oh why, can't I get a spacey feeling with narcotics! It's not fair!!!! :rotfl:
    :o
Don't be silly, it's what friends do.
    What she said. Twice.
Seriously though, you know where we are. And that's what we're here for. So don't be daft :)
As for the spaceyness, I never seem to get it when I actually want it! I felt pished last night, for a while, but it was completely unexpected and unplanned....if I carry on I'll ramble.
A question for the arty types Apart from a Stanley knife with a new blade for each tile, is there an easier way of cutting them? Having trimmed 1 tile, I'm knackered and my hands (among other things) are killing me. Any suggestions?
Well, I can completely agree with you here. I laid a floor or two using that stuff last year for my ex when he moved into a different council house after his mum died (long story, and that was prob more info than you needed anyway!). I only used one stanley knife, scissors, ruler (metal)/the edge of another tile (thicker edge), pen. I used to (from memory) mark it up first, on the back (make sure you mirror it) with a pen, score the back of the tile (the front is diff material that's usually more stiff) with the stanley knife - using the edge of another tile (as you can lean the blade more against it than a ruler) - then either continue with strokes with the stanley knife or use the scissors. If you try to cut each tile with one cut you'll break your blades or your hands!

If you lived anywhere near I'd come do it for you s/e.
s/e - hope your place will look lovely when it's all done and you can sit and relax for a while.
    What she said, again.

I have never understood the pacing concept and it was one of my arguments when I attended the pain management programme. How can you be expected to pace yourself when you don't know how you are going to feel from one day to the next?

Thankyou. I've often wondered the same thing. I also hate it when they tell you that it's (in this case ME) a chronic condition and you have to learn to live with it, then in the next breath give you false hope (as far as I'm currently concerned) by saying that you could return to some sort of normal life once you've completed whatever treatment they're proposing at the time. Grrrr.

I have IBS too - which presents as anything from diarrhoea to constipation. I think a lot of it is to do with diet, supplements, medication and stress. Presumably stress releases some sort of chemical which encourages the IBS bowel spasms-so it's not too ridiculous to think that sex could do the same. Have you tried taking an antispasmodic maybe before or just after sex? I have colofac, buscopan and mebeverine (sp?) -depending on which the GP picks out at the time

I found, when I smoked, that smoking when I was constipated or knew that I needed to go, but that it wasn't ready (iykwim?), really helped. I still have the odd one when my IBS is really playing up. Apparently it's something to do with smoking actually cools down your internal organs, incl bowels...?

  • Thank you all so much for your lovely replies, I really appreciate it. I tend to make all of my problems light hearted so can see the funny side of it - yep thank goodness the diahorrea isnt at the time!! :rotfl:

Will mention it when I next go to gp, am taking buscopan and imodium, but not on a regular basis, should I be taking buscopan daily, my gp has never really been clear on it and is a bit blase about the whole ibs thing!

    thanks again

  • I'm the same yellow rock about trying to put a funny slant on everything, but when it's a difficult symptom it al gets a bit wearing don't it.
Do you have any pain during sex? There were some articles I saw about left sided pain in women with IBS.
I can't help with the anti-spasmodics as I never got on with them.
BZ - wondered where you were and am pleased you're OK and happy with the settlement you wll get. let's hope they're quick with the cheque. Sounds like the Mum is an independent woman who doesn't like to ask for help. Good on you for using a spoon on her.
I never had constipation with my IBS, I think it must be bliss! But that's easy to say, never having had it. Without the immodium, I can "go" up to 5 times and hour and leaving the house is impossible.
I initialy discounted Morphine when it was offered as, for me, I ws concerned about the tolerance and addictiveness. However, I may give in if my steroids are reduced. Patches generally recommended, Unity??
Head pounding again tonight but whatever - tomorrow if another day.
Did you say addictive thread BZ?!
Back in an hour or so

In theory you are supposed to take the buscopan daily - possibly 3 times(?) a day? (Have a look at the leaflet) With the colofac I know I was supposed to take it 20mins before meals, for example. GPs either get it, or they really don't, with IBS. I was told, after massive pain and being rushed in to hospital under suspicion of appendicitis and 10 days in hospital with various unfruitful tests, that it was probably IBS brought on by stress (long story) as I was discharged. They gave me ibruprofen for the pain and I think that was it! I can't remember if it was the hospital or the GP that then gave me the colofac. I got bored with constantly taking tablets and found it near impossible to take it 20mins before food so kind of gave up with the meds. I do have a permanent stock in all the time though and take it when I have flare ups.

If you want a link to a site my siblings have found very helpful - about dietary choices that can really help - then let me know and I'll dig it out :)
