Same here, s/e. Life's too short for knitting tension squares.:p
At a push, I might knit a practice square if I've got a new pattern and I'm not too sure about following it. But I really can't be @rsed to muck about checking tension. [To be honest, not that long ago I was told I did a very even stitch, by someone who should know what she's talking about as she owns the local wool shop. She reckoned my tension was more even than hers.]

  • Now that's where you've got me. I can just about manage putting buttons on, turning up hems, mending seams and sewing together jumpers and cardis. When it comes to 'proper' sewing I've got two right thumbs.

Ah, you see that's where fabric glue and wonder web come in :D

Didn't have a very good experience with wonderweb. I used it to take up 2 pairs of trousers. Very good they looked when they were done. Then I washed the trousers and the wonderweb disintegrated in the machine so I had a whole load of clothes that looked like they'd been washed with a couple of tissues, and 2 pairs of trouser that needed to be re-hemmed.

  • It certainly ain't as good as it used to be. I've had that problem with trousers but have no other way to take them up being a useless sewer. In fact, I've got about 4 pairs of trousers that I've only tucked up as I don't know what else to do with them. Annoying.

Haven't been able to get warm today despite a good hot bath. Also a bit of a sore throat and I'm keeping fingers crossed that I haven't picked up a cold.

I dont knit much now-but when l do people always find it amusing as being a lefty l apparently knit oddly-drop needle every time wind wool round just cant do it in one action!
My big love is cross stitch and can get VERY excited over fabric and threads so can understand what you mean about wool and patterns!

Mmmm... I use my little finger of my R hand to keep the tension of the wool (wind the wool once round the finger before I start knitting) then use the middle finger of that hand to hoike [note the technical term there. Ed.] the wool over the needle in my R hand to create the stitch. If you could find a technique similar to that, you could increase your knitting speed considerably.

Oh, and circular needles help enormously with regard to dropping needles and losing them under the sofa.

Wanna catch a cold! Yes, I know I'm odd but I've not had a cold for around 6 years now, and catching one would indicate that my immune system is slowing down to something approaching normal functioning. It would also mean that instead of just feeling more ropey than usual (which is what happens when people 'infect' me with their germs), I'd feel 'properly ill' and be able to take to my bed.

Having said that, I hope that you feel better soon. (Actually, it may not be a cold coming - it's also entirely possible that what you're suffering from is too much exertion yesterday. I'm no stranger to cold/flu like symptoms that go away after a night in bed.)

  • That's true. I do tend to feel the cold when I've overdone it. I normally only had rad in living room on 3 and heating temp on boiler on 3, but both are turned up to max at the moment, and the halogen heater is on.
Maybe the dirt on the windows was providing a layer of insulation and now it's gone.

Tension squares, frogging, wonderweb and Fair-isle patterns...? Have you all gone fabric craft crazy?

I'm with Cwta - you're leaving me behind. I can do cross stitch - but got confused by a french knot and took it (piteously) to my SIL (the queen of all things knit and sew-like)- I can only just about knit (but hate casting on, or off, whichever one it is!) but it's a line/scarf type thing - only one type of knit or stitch or whatever it is!

Anyways, I'm also like Cwta in that I'm absolutely pooped. I stayed in bed this morning while OH went off to attempt tackling his finances, then he came back for me and I took him to work. I'm in a lousy mood though and I'm really not too sure why. :(

    How's everyone else today?

  • Watch out for s/e and her loaded walking stick BZ. You saw how she threatened me when I was in a mood.

You could always go out and hug a hoodie to cheer yourself up?:p
