Sorry if tmi, I just need to spill to non-judgemental people as family will blame me for poor choices
I don't think anyone can be blamed for poor choices under the present financial circumstances. So many "safe" investments are losing value like nobody's business.

I'm taking the line of leaving well enough alone, and it'll pick up eventually. Luckily my husband is still in work (although no job is safe these days) so fingers crossed we'll be OK.

I'll join you for a slice of cheese - I virtually live on the stuff! I think we currently have five types in the fridge.:D

I took advice from many FAs before investing so I know it's not poor choice, but family will assume it is. Great when someone has belief in you, eh?

I'll swap the choccy for a nice slice of cheese as I'm more partial to that.
Went out to get bread and a paper and supermarket was heaving. People seem to still be spending and I fear many pigeons will come home to roost in January.

Oh you have set me off now  - a nice piece of Wensleydale with cranberries and orange a I think (yum), yes - I am eating it now and it is! :D We went out yesterday and it wasn't too bad at all. I came across a shop called B&M Bargains, but don't know if this is a national chain or not. They seem to stock a lot of the things that used to be at Au Naturale/Internactional, but together will all sorts of bargains like Duerr's marmalade at 39p a jar. We got quite a few bits and pieces in there including Mango chutney and some of those tiny peppers (like Peppadew) for 79p. I only hope they are not Scotch Bonnet chilies in disguise . My candle arch stopped working a couple of years back and despite taking it to bits I couldn't see what was wrong - so it went the journey - well I picked one up there for £3.99. I also got a new fibre-optic tree (black) from Instore (practically next door on the same trading estate) for £14.95. You see I did the daft thing of mentioning that our old fibre-optic tree was doing so well (we've had it over 10 years) that it must have heard and promptly stopped working!:rolleyes::rolleyes: I got a replacement halogen bulb and it started up again, only to fail after about two hours - this time it was the motor. Anyway it was only a 32in one that we have in the lounge as the main tree is in the dining room bay window.

I must have done too much though as I had a bad night and woke this morning with my nerves on fire. I have to see the GP tomorrow hopefully for my MRI results, so we'll see what is what then.

Hope everyone is keeping warm and resting.

  • Fingers crossed for your results, Unity.
If I get the ironing done and still have a little energy, I will put my twinkly lights up. It's hardly on the priority list of things to do, but they look so nice.

  • Raeh well done on getting the hair cut. Brave move and I'm glad you're pleased with it, and that it will be easier to look after.
I had about 4 inches cut from my hair last year and it's really quite short and much easier to manage.

Haven't seen s/e and BZ today. Hope you are both OK.

Yeah Cheers, Cwta, I'm ok. I was in a low mood yesterday which was mostly to do with too much Amy-on-a-trampoline (as OH calls it :rotfl:) but when I was sat there pondering why I was so low I also realised it was cos I was bothered about the fact that we'd cancelled Christmas (cos no money). Add to this that OH will be working all over Christmas (although thankfully only 12-4pm on Christmas day) and because he's working here we/I can't go do the family thing until his days off... So after some discussion last night about the things I miss/will miss about a "proper" Christmas (as per my family's tradition) we've decided that we need things to open so we've set ourselves a £15 budget to get each other a stocking full of stuff to open and he's gonna put the tree up in his house on Friday :) So Christmas is back on!! So we went into town this afternoon to raid the pound/charity/cheap shops today and I think we're both well impressed with what we managed to get (eg I got a Bill Bryson book for £1.29 etc) and are far more excited about Christmas now cos we want to see what we've got each other. We're going to take pity on his (orphaned) best friend too and get him some wrap-ups :) We're gonna see if we can borrow my sister's/BIL's Wii for over Christmas (they'll be out at family anyway) so we can try before we consider buying and will have something to look forward to playing together while he's not working.

So, in short, I've been shopping. :D

Unity - B&M Bargains is a nationwide chain, it's ace - but of course it's only as good as it's stock - you can go in sometimes and there's nothing exciting in, and other times there's loads in. It's like Matalan really! ;)

Raeh - good on you for the hairdo, I hope you really enjoy it :) I had mine done a week or two ago and I'm surprised how much a couple of inches makes (I too have long hair). I'm still not mad keen on the colour, as it's more Morticia Addams than the natural colour I asked for...but ah well. We'll see what happens when my roots start showing - if it's chronic I'll just go back and tell em I asked for Natural not Black with hints of red!!

LilacLillie - I'm glad you went and had a proper chat with your doc and I hope you now feel better about it all...? The General Physician thing was me, but thinking about it now, my Gen Phys was a doc that (I think) came out of retirement cos he was bored, lol. At least she's taking you seriously and you've been referred now. :) Yay!

Oh and by the way - I'm definitely more chocolate than cheese! :D (And Cwta, shock horror!, I managed another pasta bake tonight :D)

You do realise that I have no idea what you are talking about in the last few posts??! I am knitting illiterate still. I think I may leave lerning until the New Year. The pack I've bought to learn with knits up into a simple scarf in fancy bobbly wool, so at least I (in theory) should have something to show for my first attempt.

Im the same, my Mum brought me one of those kits last year, I couldnt get the hang of casting off and on at all, and Id be ok knitting a couple of lines then Id drop a stitch and be stuck until my next visit to Mum, in the end she offered to finish it for me :D I used to cross stitch a bit but had to give it up as my hands started to hurt and cramp a lot and I started to have trouble concentrating on it and forget where I was all the time.

Im so glad not everyone here is mad on knitting. :D

Ive had my 19month old g/d all day today as her Mum was working, so I am really suffering tonight. She's lovely, but hard work, I just hope I can get out of bed tomorrow as Ive got her again

I'm a bit the same with the cast on and off business. Cross stitch is still ok, when I'm in the mood etc. However, if you fancy doing something like that, have you tried latch-hook rug making? The hook is much bigger as are pieces of wool that are involved. There's nothing really fiddly about it but it's very satisfying to do..?
