Well had to wait in for a delivery that I'd forgotten, so not got anywhere much yet! Potatoes are cooked though (thanks d&dd, will try getting a sack of red, got white this time so fingers crossed!) and focaccia is rising.

Tired mum, please don't leave, I know that it has changed a bit here, but I don't think it means that we all have to be totally os, I like hearing about how people spend their days and the things that they do, be they os or otherwise, and obviously you're interested in os stuff else you wouldn't be here! Stick with us!

Right, off to hunt down bargain caulis now, and pay some more money for a school trip - argh these things are never ending! x

Morning everyone, what a gorgeous day!!

Last night I made HM pasties for the first time. Last week, after much humming and haa-ing, I bought a Magimix. I'd been thinking about it for ages, and then I saw that House of Fraser had upped their cashback via Quidco and were having a sale; it was the last day of the sale, the Magimix I wanted was very reduced.... so I gave in and bought it. I've found it invaluable.

For the first time (since I was a child, anyway) I made my own pastry, using the Magimix. It was fantastic, shortcrust pastry in seconds! We had caramalised apple tart last week to try it out, it sliced the apples in it as well, and I used it to make the custard Yesterday I used it to make more pastty for the pasties. Plus it shredded the vegetables & chopped the onion to go in the pasty, and all that Squash for my pumpkin Marmalade, and sliced the lemons and oranges.... I was nervous that it would be a disappointment, but it isn't.

Anyway, today I've been out leaf raking, and I also gave the Hen Pen it's weekly rake and disinfect. The Ladies (my hens) had free run of the garden while I was doing this; their end of the garden is a bit dark and damp at the moment and, although they have free access to it, they aren't taking advantage of it very much, preferring to rook around in their covered run. They loved being up the house end for a change. I've put them back at their end now that I'm back in the house though.

I'm going to make some toast to test the marmalade in a minute, and then I've got a birthday cake to marzipan. Quite a few of us have birthdays close together, and we're having lunch together soon to celebrate so I've made a big cake. If I marzipan it today, I can aim to ice it on Sunday, and then decorate it next week when the fondant icing has had a chance to harden off.

For my darling sd's birthday , I've made all her wedding stationery. I'm on the lookout for some sort of keepsake book so that I can put one of every item in, so she has something to open from us on her birthday. Most of the big shops don't sell anything suitable - all 'too many pages', or the wrong size etc. There is a lovely little craft shop a few miles away, so I'm hoping they will have something suitable. Failing that I guess I could try and make one, but I'm a bit crafted out at the moment.
And it's great to see you back :T Did you get any further with the pigs
Not yet. The chap who did your course doesn't seem to do them anymore. I haven't gone any further with a pig keeping course yet as we found our allotment association were not willing to take the necessary steps to allow us to have pigs (and we fully understand and support their reasons). We're exploring another avenue now, and if that looks like it's a possibility I'll try again with the courses.

Anyway. My toast and coffee are calling me, so I'll say ta-ta for now.

<hugs> to anyone who needs one!
  • Morning (just!) everyone

I'm doing a naughty and posting from work - :shhh:

Haven't posted for a little while as I've been so busy with work/home/college.

Thriftlady - am absolutely thrilled that you are posting again :T

Catowen - hope you're getting on well with your new littlie :D

DD is going round to FIL's after school for a very non OS supper of fish 'n' chips, I'm taking the opportunity to clean the bathroom and her bedroom. Caught up with some ironing yesterday and made some lovely cherry and almond cupcakes for a work colleagues birthday today.

Need to make another loaf of bread when I get home, and strip DD's bedding (hoping to get it washed/dried/back on the bed by tonight)

I'm going to London tomorrow to visit my Dad in hospital (he has requested honey and rich tea biscuits) - DD and DH are going to the IL's for a roast beef dinner (they're plating mine up for me so I can heat it up when I get back :D . I can honestly say it is the first time I have had a meal cooked for me without being involved in any of the preparation :j

Hoping to get some more of my knitting project finished tonight - we will see

    Have a lovely day everyone
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)
  • Hello everyone,I've missed the past couple of days as I've just been so busy.I've been doing all the things that need doing while the weather is good, painting my yard garden walls and tidying out the shed.I cleaned my storecupboard under the stairs out and re-arranged everything so that I can reach things easier. It took me all day.
It was so cold yesterday but realy sunny. It's freezing today and I'm so tired I just can't be bothered but still have some painting to do.No rest for the wicked eh!.
I don't have a clue what's for dinner, will probably be one mad rush when I realise OHs due in.Still it's not like there's nothing in.
So sorry but have'nt had time to read through all the posts so hugs and best wishes to all who need them.
Have a good day everyone .
    Take care xxx.
  • Good morning Chums,
alls well so far in my world. My lovely sis-in-law went home today with strict instructions that I must not do too much, or raise my arm up until all the stitches have dissolved .How will I know? as the line goes from the front under my arm and halfway around the back of me:confused: I spoke to the breast care nurses yesterday (they are brilliant ) when they phoned to see how I was doing, and they say that 4-6 weeks and I can get my prosthesis fitted, so I will at last look fairly normal by Christmas. I had already bought an outfit to wear at Christmas so fingers crossed all will be well by then.
I am still very stiff at the moment, but it is improving by the day. Bit cheesed off that I can't drive just yet though, as I am missing college. Still onwards and upwards.
I am still working my way through the freezer, and last night we had lamb shanks with veggies for dinner in the SC and it was delicious. I have some bananas to use up today so I may make a banana custard .
I seem to have quite a lot of milk pudding stuff in the cupboards so for the next few weeks I shall be cooking milky puds for desserts. I do love rice pudding, and will put some sultanas in with the rice, as they give it such a nice taste as they 'plump up' beautifully, plus a little sprinkled nutmeg or cinnamon on the top.
Still not got the heating on just yet as my Arimidex tablets give me 'hot flushes' almost hourly at the moment. But I have to have a fan on to cool me down so what I save on the gas CH I shall be spending on the electric
Oh well time to go and have a root around the freezer for dinner tonight I have a feeling I have some plaice in there, so I may do that for dinner tonight ,perhaps in the oven with some mushrooms and a cheese sauce to top it off with. <<hugs to those in need>> and welcome to the 'newbies'
    Cheers JackieO xx

You'll have to catch up on reading all those trashy novels that you never had time for before;)

    Afternoon Everyone

Been doing my hunter gatherer bit at the local market and got loads of bargains that I'm pleased with.

Got some cherry tomatoes, red peppers and onions to roast off as for some reason i've got a real craving for them (NO I'm not pregnant:rotfl: )

Two loads of washing down and one to go.I'm sure my kids stop awake nights just the make more washing!

I havent defrosted anything for tea so it'll have to be something simple like beans and poached eggs on toast. Will make up with it with pud as I have some sticky buns and apple braid

DD you have a mucky mind I nearly spat my brew all over the laptop when I read your post:rotfl:

KAATLADY my OH snores terribly and when he's at his worst I sleep at the bottom of the bed, believe it or not that little distance between us makes it quiet enough for me to sleep.Maybe you could try the same remedy with the prob with his CPAP
