That's what I thought when I made it. I think it is, I used plain flour and it turned out fine!Pink-winged wrote: »The chocolate cake in a mug had mixed reviews from Old Stylers. I made it and the boys enjoyed it but it was more like a sponge pudding and has to be eaten straight away or it goes very dry and dense.
I made it as soon as I got in from work and was so hungry I just ate it from the mug, with big helpings of whipped cream!:o0 -
Morning all! Bright and sunny here today, thrown the windows all open to air the house.
N9eav - ouch, hope it feels better soon, and hope you all enjoy your dd's bday!
Beth - the apple braid recipe is D&DD's and is on the recipe bit at the front of the GC thread. It is fantastic!
Well had to get up and swish and swipe the kitchen as didn't do it before bed, think the two glasses of red wine with dinner were responsible for that! Anyway it's all done now, dw run and unloaded and reloaded and running again! BM will be pinging soon and will then pop in some dough for foccacia, moski has huge potatoes baking for kids tea tonight, wm needs filling when I feel brave enough to grab ds's manky rugby kit!
Want to whip out to Aldi as they have cauli's on special this week and we can eat cauli cheese for England here! Need to have a hoover around and then the day is my own - well that's the plan, need to go and poke about a bit in the garden a make some plans for next year's planting. Going to stick to doing toms out in the front garden as it gets sun all day long, they look quite nice lurking behind the lavender and pinks I think!
Has anyone else noticed that potatoes are going grotty and soft really quickly at the mo - bought a big sack from morries yesterday so hope they'll last for a bit, really don't have the space to cook and freeze them all!
Meant to say, yesterday I bought a bag of minced garlic in morries, cost about 50p, and I think works out cheaper than buying cloves, thought it would make a good standby, and handy if I'm making loads of garlic bread.
Anyway brekkie today was crumpets, lunch will be leftover mexican for me, packed lunches for the kids, and tea for them will be baked pots, for me I don't know yet, fancy garlic something now I've thought about it!
Have a good day one and all, hugs to all who need them, and Bootsalebabe, I hope that yesterday wasn't too hard for you all, and Marie, fingers crossed that Ulick is on the mend with no more setbacks. xGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Morning all on this very chilly day here in CD, there is definitley a "snowy" feel. Got heating on low just to take the chill off. Got such a shock when i opened the blinds this morning, a house opposite has been graffitied in the night, right across the front and its not pleasant. Someone has got enemies!
Have already tidied and i am going to do some painting, bedroom doors and sides of staircase ready for my new carpet, which i must get next week.
Lunch will be HM mince pie, chips and peas.
Have a good Friday all, BSB xx0 -
N9eave - I do hope you feel better soon. It is so surprising how any movement can jar your neck.
Hugs to all, especially Lame Wolf. Huge amounts of admiration for all those who have already done so much this morning. I am a slow starter (if I actually get started) so I am always impressed by people that can do things before breakfast.
Kerriebaby - You will be fine here. I have not been posting long but here they make you so welcome. It's like posting into a hug.
Heidiboo - Congratulations on getting out. I would recommend that you do not do what I did and let yourself stay in the house. If you can manage it go out every day even if it is just to the garden gate. Little bear is nearly two now and I struggle to take him out, but when he was very little I had a severely depressed dear heart then a bereavement, then a redundancy for dear heart so I could make plenty of excuses to avoid taking little bear out. It sounds like you will be just fine. Also, do not underestimate how kind people can be to mums with pushchairs. So many people have helped me when I have been stuck in a doorway or on a step, there is so much good out there.
Cinny - that chocolate pudding in a mug sounds like a lifeline. I shall try it as soon as I may.
Little bear has been sick all over the carpet. I had just popped down into the kitchen (my kitchen is in my cellar) and came up to find him sitting sadly on the floor surrounded by second hand formula. Well, the carpet was already in a bad way and I brought out some Astonish carpet shampoo which was extremely ineffective. Not only was it ineffective but when I got the stardrops and cold water the second hand formula seemed laminated into the carpet. I have made a certain amount of impact and I am about to go round two with the dratted stuff, followed by sprinkling (well, smothering) with bicarb and then hoovering, but any other suggestions will be extremely gratefully received.
It is the first time little bear has been sick, apart from a little bit when he was very tiny, so he was quite bewildered by the whole experience. I gave him some cuddles and then we went upstairs and he went into his playpen for a nap. I think I should explain. The cot is strictly for night time only. Any naps are in the playpen, which is large and has a padded base. It also has several blankets, an old pillow which he has insisted stays in, a sheepskin rug, a plethora of very soft IKEA toys and an overlarge teddy bear which is generally used as a pillow. There is an underlying strata of blocks, semi chewed books and toy cars. Every other day or so I pull everything out and place all the hard toys out but next to the playpen so he can get them, in a separate pile the soft toys, the blankets hung over the sides of the playpen etc. Within hours it is back to the nest he obviously prefers.
So, any old style hints about getting second hand formula out of carpets would be extremely welcome. I am going to go now and throw out the Astonish carpet shampoo. After I have tried the cake in a mug!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Right i`m back,
i`ve thrown the rest of the jar of pectin in stirred it all up and jarred the marmalade so now i have my fingers crossed that all will be well although i do have huuuuuge doubts
I`ve cleared more than half of the ironing mountain and i went to Sainsburys for the pectin as i read yesterday that they stock it, the lady that showed me where it was in the shop was lovely and she was telling me about all the things that her grandmother used to make.
I bought a turkey leg to make the fake duck recipe for tea later and i shall make the tortillas from MrsM`s recipe as they are so cheap to make and really yummy.
The washing is hung on the line and it`s really cold but sunny here, now that the marmalade is done i shall put the ironing away and walk the hounds as they are willing me to put my boots on
Catch up later guys, have a good day.

Morning all,
Lovely morning here, chilly but I don't mind that so long as that strange thing called 'the sun' is visible.
Haven't managed to get one blackberry this year as they weren't ripe before the last bout of rain so may take a trip out the fields to see if I can get some....Irish legend has it that the devil urinates on them at the end of October so will chance it until then...I love blackberry and apple crumble, pie, anything really and refuse to buy them.
Ulick seems to have recovered from the pains in his head....at least there have been none this morning so far...he has an appointment with stroke consultant on Tuesday so hopefully we might get some answers then.
Hoping to do some cabbage for pickling to-day, no trip to hospital so feel free as a bird.
Sybil...maybe if you work a paste of bicarb into the spot, let it dry and then hoover you might have some success....but try other people's advice first, as stains are not my forte.
Never got to read thread yesterday so hope that all feeling unwell are better to-day...hugs to all in need or want, welcome to newbies and returnees(?) and congratulations to all who are celebrating
