Oh for the rest of it - yes you can give some wet food if you want - make sure again it's one of the better brands and not chappies or butchers etc :) Because I'll bet you the farts will be tremendous and the poops will smell to high heaven ;)

One of the reasons I stopped being actively involved in rescue is that I started loosing faith in the human race... what people will knowingly do to another living creature makes me sick at times... I couldn't take that long term :(

I spent two years at a livery yard that had a boarding kennels & cattery there too, the kennels took strays from the cops or DW & yeah it was sooo sad, luckily I don't think many were cruelty cases but I read some terrible stuff yesterday. Maybe THAT is why she farts! They stick Chappie in a Kong at night for her!

And when I said they give her mixer the P@G girl pointed to a shelf with three on (Pedigree/Bakers & something else, might be Winalot?) & said yeah it's total rubbish.

I'd like to give her some natures:menu (I think for a dog it's 60% meat & good stuff) the people @ NM said probably 1/2 of the 300g pouch a day if fed with Burns etc, I dunno why but I like that stuff, she probs won't! The cat has only tried one flavour & adores it!

I just compared the Arden Grange to the P@H & it looks better, i'm off to google it, does it come in a few flavours? I wanted some meat cause i'm wondering if all dry is abit boring? I try to vary the cats but she mostly has the P@H cause it's Senior lol but she does like her NM!

Yes they do chicken & lamb and i think another flavour too... and senior, junior, sensitive etc :)
As for it getting boring... I'll try to do a video of Kira eating hers tomorrow morning as she's had her dinner already and post a link to it ;) I can assure you she's not bored with it hehe!
For kong stuffing I take half her daily allowance and let it soak till it's mushy, then mix it with a non soaked half of her allowance and stuff it in. As Kira is so quick at getting it out I freeze her kongs so they are more difficult to get the food out of and keep her entertained for ages :) Only thing found to distract her so far are real bones and maybe a dried tripe stick (yuck!)

I used to feed Kira on Costco's own brand - few addatives and actually over all pretty good - but when I changed to Arden I have to say her coat has improved fantastically and she doesn't fart as much and her poops are better quality (something you appreciate when you have to pick up after the dog! Trust me!)
Just never ever feed her anything with added colours... or those fancy treats like Jumbones :) Get her some hide chews and pigs ears instead :)

Thanks sooo much, I gotta say everyone is so awesome helping me specially you & Foreign Correspondant! Are the Dentastix ok for teeth (One a day?) i'll get her used to a toothbrush also, she's happy being touched all over including in her mouth so that should be ok.

Do you let Kongs warm to room temp before giving them to the dog? I have visions of a Staff biting right thru & breaking a tooth lol
Could I buy a bag of each flavour Arden & mix them in a storage bin so she gets the same each time but it'd be a nix of both?
I think i'm gonna try that for her, maybe i'll e-mail too & see if they send a sample! Cause yeah I noticed she stinks at times lmaooo

LOL no I let her have it frozen... buy the black ones though and not the red ones :) The black are stronger and should be staff proof ;) even if the contents is froozen the kong will still be rubbery and she'll be fine. Start with it normal and upgrade gradually if you feel happier :) It's only because Kira has mastered the art of getting it empty in 5 secs ;)
Dentastix contain a lot of high energy addatives - entirely your choice but I'd say with brushing and dry food she'll be just fine! Kira gets real bones from the butchers once in a while to munch on but I entirely appreciate that not everyone likes feeding real bones for worry of small splinters etc :) I take the view that it's something a wild dog would be chewing on if they caught something so probably less hazardous than say the multitude of beds she ate when we first got her LOL
But that is totally a personal choice! If you do get bones from the butchers: get large ones (so knuckles etc), only let her have them when supervised and only allow for a day - ie when she's finished with it don't let her keep it till the next day allowing the bone to dry out because this is when it's likely to splinter :) Oh and if you ask the butchers for bones for your dog make sure you say large ;) the biggest bonus is that they are usually free so very MSE! :D

Oh and I'd just start with one flavour of arden and if you want to give her something different then order the other flavour next time :) That should be fine - primarily because it doesn't have half a tonne of addatives :)

• I'll see if I can get a sample, looks like really good food, they do wet too but in tins & I think you can only keep a tin open 24hrs so she wouldn't eat all that by then. How exciting is this! lolllllllllllllllllllllll
• hey cool ! I just came in and read this, so glad it all went well, some dogs are trumpier than others, mine doesnt often fart but then I gave her some leftover stew with swede in it the other day and she was farting like a trooper - they had the audacity to look around as if to say 'what the heck was that!?!'
However, the dry food I give her has yucca extract which is supposed to reduce the stinkies.

I give my dog denta rasks occasionally, but she does demolish them in seconds. (the little dental chews seem to go down in one, whigh I imagine dos b*gger all for her teeth and probably isnt fab for her digestion!) Wilko do some which seem the same as the bone shaped denta rasks, but are quite a bit cheaper. I would avoid the american ones called greenies cos they have been known to get swallowed in lumps and cause blockages.

Although some foods undoubtedly contain more meat etc than others, I would say whatever your dog does well on is fine, and its important to settle on something you can afford easily too - however I would avoid artificial colours - there is no need for them at all. My last dog was fed Wagg and lived to 16, and my current dog loves it too, is in great condition and good health, with a lovely glossy coat and clean teeth - so I am happy enough with that!

Ohh glad you said about Greenies, they were the brand P@H showed me & recommended, but I didn't think they looked nice  Like she'll even look at them! The Arden Grange looks ok at only £25 for a huge 15kg bag! I bet that'd last over a month & I spend about £30 on the cat food alone each month without her dental chew things & treats!

If you get the tinned food then you could stuff 2 kongs and split the rest in to 2 days food and then freeze the kongs and give those the next 2 days so you give 1 tin over 4 days if you see what I mean :)
