Helloo!
ok, try this for dog names - you can put in different factors and it comes up with a list of dog names!
http://www.dog-names.us/database.asp?Category1=1
Re: stuff - dogs need very little, much of what we choose for them is as much for our pleasure than theirs. With a warm place to sleep, exercise, food and love, and most dogs are happy!
The essentials are really only a collar and lead, tags, somewhere to sleep, food and bowls. A staffie shouldnt be able to back out of a collar if it fits ok as they have quite a wide skull.
Re: beds - this is similar to my dogs - it cost about a tenner I think and is fine, she has got a pillow and blanket in there, on top of a piece of carpet that was left over!
its this sort of thing: http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/invt/0027261
I got my mum a similar one from freecycle. However, for the first few days my mums dog slept in a large shallow fruit box with a blanket in it, as she was not sure what sort to get for her!!
As for bowls, plastic, pot or steel all seem fine, if she chews there is a risk she may chew a plastic bowl, but I doubt it. One with a wide base is harder to knock over -
ie. this shape http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/invt/0070441
is more stable than this: http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/invt/0010765
My dogs water bowl is like the stainless steel one and i keep meaning to change it as I kick it over almost daily! lol0 -
Ah that first bowl looks pretty much the same as the pink plastic one I saw at P@H, that's wide like that! She doesn't have the Staffie bone structure, she's very small built really (From what I remember lmao i'll look again tomorrow) tho I think her ears looked quite long to me even though they're the typical flopped over Terrier ears lol
I guess her width as such is like a Jack Russell/Cocker etc she hasn't got that huge bone structure but you can see right off she's a Staff. I don't think she's young, she does have some grey hairs on her muzzle! lol
Never thought of Wilko, thanks! There's a few about here. I looked at Argos & found a bed just now for £7-99 so will get that or Wilko's for now! I am only wanting to be cheap just cause on the day i'm paid & the day I get her i'll be paying £20-£30 for a taxi home, £80 or £85 to adopt her & then all the bits & bobs + I need to keep some back for the girl who's gonna come in & walk her the day i'm out.
No doubt on 16th i'll go mental lol0 -
There is nothing wrong with cheap - this is MSE after all!! I think if she walks ok on the lead she is unlikely to get out of her collar, just make sure its on relatively tight - so you can get 2 fingers under it though!
I guess a taxi on the day you get her would make it easier - or is there any chance you could get your dad or a friend to take you?0 -

My Dad's at work until something like 5:30 & they're shut then, but he was like no dogs going in his car  Think he's scared she'll be sick/pee etc. Only one sort've friend but she doesn't drive either lol
The taxi company are aware she could mess up & just said stick her on a blanket & i'll sit next to her too, i'll take some bags with me so I can just clear the blanket up if she does make any mess. Wish I was taking her tomorrow I can't wait :j
I'm just hoping that before I get her her old owners don't come for her! Still she goes on reserve for me tomorrow so that's good! If it doesn't work out i'll get a 90yr old CKCS that's blind & asthmatic so it can't cat chase! But i'm hopeful it will & she'll learn!
You're so right that half the time the stuffs for us, i'm so excited about getting her collar & lead tomorrow & hopeful she's not Small size (Looks like a cat collar). I like the Medium it's nice & chunky but not too big, it's that material that's like lanyard, kind of feels like it, with a black do up bit that slots in not buckles & is purple, how sad am I!?!?
They only have one Medium in also so I hid it behind some others lmfao gawd I need therapy0 -
Buy her a single duvet and cover from Tesco and fold it in half... Think that was Kira's favourite bed ever and it worked out cheap as to start with she chewed all her beds... she didn't care if it worked out at £10 from Mr T or £30+ from elsewhere. Now she's stopped chewing she's got a "Danish Design" dog bed which she loves even though she needs a new one really...
This one has been washed THAT many times
As for jackets... she's a dog... she doesn't NEED a jacketUnless the shaved all her fur off then it's not a necessity!

My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -
Oh as for collars - Kira was a collar escape artist so we have a half choke collar - it doesn't choke the dog but fitted properly it's nearly impossible for them to back out of them
if she pulls on the lead you might wanna think about a halti too... I'd certainly get that before any "cute" things

She doesn't pull at all sot hat's ok, the rescue don't allow choke or half choke collars & P@H don't sell them they said for same reasons, I spose in the wrong hands maybe they do more harm than good? They put a coat on her cause she shivers like mad being a Staff x, they really feel the cold, even with the coat on she was so shivering lol they said she'll need one. I know some breeds do & some like rough collies don't.
I want a name now that's long but can be shortened! Preferably to Meg, but not Megan lmaoooo I love Kira!0 -
P@H certainly sells them - that's where I have bought all mine from
The shivering is not likely to be a warmth issue to be honest with you... more likely an issue with her being a little nervous. Breeds like chihuahua might need a coat when it drops below freezing but staffies (and I know a few) don't... if you wanna give her a coat knock yourself out, but don't do it because you think she's too cold
And the half choke is also known as a half check which as you can see is definitely part of the pets at home rangewhy the rescue wouldn't allow it I wouldn't even start to guess... never heard of that before and I have worked with a lot of rescues - including checking them to ensure that the conditions and procedures were acceptable to the organisation I was with was happy with being associated - and never have any banned the use of half checks/chokes... choke chains and prong collars and e-collars yes... not half checks... If you don't like the chain bit you can actually get ones where the chain is replaced with a strong nylon

apparently
"In Disney's Hercules, Meg is short for Megara, the hero's love interest"
and
"Meg" is one of nicknames of Japanese common name "Megumi".
and is also short for Megan or Margeret

MrsTine - I have known some staffies who definitely feel the cold - they dont have much fur on really compared to some breeds!0 -

Temp problems are common with staffs, they overheat very easily too. My old x used to shiver & she certainly wasn't nervous lol she's not 100% staff, alot smaller in weight & bone structure too, so who knows
Ah I see those online, maybe it was something else written down, I guess it'll say on the contract, I noticed on a form I had to fill in they don't allow it, our P@H said they don't sell any but I haven't looked yet.
She's got very short hair & I was FREEZING lmao & i'm overweight too! So if it wasn't the cold i'd be suprised lol not to say you're wrong, i'm sure you know dogs more than me but I know Staff breeds & know they have temp issues hot or cold, so it's possible.
I have to get her a coat anyways, cause the rescue say she needs one, but going on the breed (Or the half I know) it's likely she was cold, I know tomorro i'll be wearing something much warmer cause I had blue fingertips lmaoooooo
Not gonna get her a bling designer jumper tho!0
